“Inside a crystal mountain, in a land where rainbow rivers flow, live the kind-hearted Kindles, whose faces with goodness glow. Sparkli, the natural leader, is a brave and heroic beauty. Together she and the Kindles sing in perfect harmony. Their group, the Glow Notes chorus, sings their joy to everyone. With music and love, they grow honey buds. To the Kindles, even work is fun.
But Eyevil the wicked sorceress wants to end all this happiness. Eyevil is afraid of light, and lives in the dark forest of eyes where it’s always night. To save the Kindles from this awful sorceress, the Lady of Light gave them the greatest gift – a brilliant inner light that shines within, a ‘Kindlelight’!”

Kindles were produced by Ideal in 1985. They were dolls which had switches on their bases or sides that, when turned on, made their faces light up (except for the character of Eyevil, whose five eyes lit up).

Dolls

There were eleven dolls produced in this short lived series which included six light-up dolls (aprox. 6" high), two deluxe light-up dolls and three smaller sized dolls.

Each doll came with:

light-up face and eyes (see left)
jewelled necklace
soft rooted hair
crystal comb
removable cape and matching cap
movable arms and head
their own unique accessory

Each doll also came with the same musical record and comic book (see Accessories).

Light Up Dolls

There were six light-up dolls:

Beami c/w frilly blanket - “The littlest of all the Kindles, Beami loves to imitate her friends and make them laugh.”
Flashi c/w shimmering purse - “Of all the kindles, Flashi has the most energy. She’s vibrant, outspoken and loves to dance.”
Glari c/w tiny harp - “The most serious of all the Kindles, Glari is the music director of the Glow Notes chorus.”
Gleami c/w glittering basket - “Glimmer is the kindest of all the Kindles characters. She’s soft-spoken, feminine and extremely intelligent.”
Glorali c/w glimmer guitar - “Sweet Glorali loves to sing, dance and play in the sunshine, but most of all she enjoys strumming her glimmer guitar.”
Sparkli c/w magical mirror - “Beautiful Sparkli is a natural leader. She is well-known in fantasy forest for her wisdom and heroic deeds.”

Deluxe Dolls

There were two deluxe light-up dolls which came with a different comic:

Lady of Light c/w jewelled case
Eyevil, The Wicked Sorceress c/w Eyebat Creature (Eyevil's five eyes lit up rather than her head)

Small Dolls

There were three smaller sized dolls produced, which were versions of three of the light-up dolls. I have no images of these, so please email me if you can help!
