“Now, come on in!”These C&A “Clock House” womenswear ads date from 1983-84. The all feature red bubble font.
“Electric Youth – The electric fragrance!” These ads for Debbie Gibson’s “Electric Youth” perfume are from 1989-90. It was produced by Revlon and distributed by Natural Wonder Cosmetics, which Debbie Gibson advertised between 1988-90.

“Sisters are different from brothers.”These ads for men’s hair styling product “Duke” and their women’s range “Raveen” are from 1964 to 1972. Both made by Supreme Beauty Products, they mainly advertised separately but there were a few mixed line ads too.

No seams to worry about!These pantyhose ads by Hanes date from 1954-65 and are all of a similar style.
Sheer indulgence.There were several styles of smaller ad campaigns from Hanes released during the sixties.
“Gentlemen Prefer Hanes” These unashamedly awful Hanes pantyhose adverts date from between 1973-84. Each one features a man leering at another woman’s legs whilst out with his wife or girlfriend. I don’t know about them being gentlemen, more like creepymen!

“Cocktails… for the holidays!” In Nov-Dec 1956, Heublein’s ready to serve cocktails produced two ads featuring actors Vincent Price and Billy Pearson brandishing a cocktail pitcher.

“Come claim a private new world all for you. The Gentle Sex.” This lovely illustrated ad campaign for Kotex Kotique feminine hygiene products date from 1969-71.
“Kraft…means more than cooking.” This ad campaign by Kraft ran in 1975. Each ad included a recipe using various Kraft products.
“A beautiful way to relax.” These are my favourite ads for La-Z-Boy chairs, dating from 1971-76.
“She’ll flip with your cool magic.” These ads for Magic Shaving Powder and Magic After Shave Cream by Carson date between 1964-81.
“Luxurious in every detail.”These ads for Mele jewellery cases have the most wonderful illustrated backdrops. They are from 1967-68.
“Body-clinging knits stress masculinity with lean, sexy look.” Ebony magazine’s September 1970 fashion shoot for men, taken in New York Central Park, was based around “machismo”. And striped trousers.
“New Griffin Savers Account has a lot to offer young savers.” This Midland Bank advert is from 1984-85. I had the Griffin Savers Account myself and still have the dictionary and pencil case somewhere!
“Five days of new freedom.” These fun ads for Meds tampons by Modess are from 1954.
“Free record token when you open an account.” These ads for National Girobank are from 1982-84. The account was for 15 to 19 year olds and offered record tokens as an incentive to open an account.
“Not everyone Ade Edmonson met was a complete and utter b…” Young Ones character Vivian, played by comedian Ade Edmonson, advertised for Natwest bank in 1987 (print & TV).
“Isn’t it time you replaced your piggy bank?” These graphic design style ads for NatWest banks On Line account are from 1986-87. The account was aimed at teenagers.
“Call for Philip Morris.”These ads for Philip Morris cigarettes date from 1938-47. I don’t know about you, but that bell boy creeps me out.

“Smoke for pleasure today. No Cigarette hangover tomorrow!”Philip Morris cigarettes sponsored US TV show I Love Lucy from its premier on 15th October 1951, until Christmas 1954. As well as the TV ads, there were paper ads featuring the shows stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
“No other cigarette gives you this assurance… this smoking pleasure.”In 1954, Philip Morris modernised their cigarette advertising campaign with a fresh new look (no bell boys to be seen anywhere). They also had a new design of “snap-open” packaging.
“Opens in a jiffy… closes tight to keep flavour in!”In 1955, Philip Morris cigarettes commissioned artist Edwin Georgi to create this series of wonderful illustrations for them.

“All things exotic in satin.” These slightly saucy ads for Scintilla satin bedding are from 1970-75.
“Fresh, fashionable, very wearable.” These ads for Sears “The Men’s Store” were part of their Menswear Report campaign. They all date from 1976.
“Colours Grey Hair Black” These small black and white ads for Slick Black by Valmor were used between 1969-80. Personally, I like the half-white/half-black hair look.
“One poof is all the proof you need!” These ads for Stopette deodorant are from 1950-56.
“And now a ‘space suit’ for mothers to be.”This is an article from the Daily Express, Friday 20th November 1959 about a new fangled birthing contraption.
Hirsute Englishmen have made a London Saloon the shrine to gentlemen who sport “smashers”. I came across this article from 1947 about The Handlebar Club quite by chance and thought it too good not to share!
“How to design and create beautiful garments on your knitting machine.” The Machine Knitting Book by John Allen was published in 1985 and featured a wealth of highly dubious jumpers.
