“A pencil case can only take so much!”
This ad for various WHSmith stationary dates from 1988.
It reminded me of my own extensive collection of stationery items from this time. Sparkly pencils, novelty rubbers, patterned pencil cases, funky rulers, funny shaped sharpener… all my pocket money went on these things! I even took my pencil collection on holiday one year.
I still get a funny feeling of excitement whenever I enter a stationers to this day, although I no longer spend all my pocket money there (it’s all spent in bead shops these days!).
