William Gaunt was born in 1834 in Offord Darcy, Huntingdonshire and was one of eleven children. He worked as a Bricklayer and his father was a Master Sawyer.

Caroline Andrew was born in 1841 in Great Paxton, Huntingdonshire and was one of nine children. Before marrying she worked as a Housemaid, her father was a Brickmaker.

Below is a photo of George's widow Lucy and their son Maurice at his grave, note the original wooden crosses, which were later replaced with stone. It was very rare for widows to actually go over to France and Flanders to visit their husbands graves as it was very expensive.
