Title: [ID: McDonald's LPS Happy Meals] Tonka 1996 Swan, Unicorn, Dragon, Tiger
Post by: SBarclay on Thursday 30 September 2010, 02:34 am
I have four animals that say 1996 Tonka Corp. China SW China.  There is a purple unicorn with brushable tail, a yellow dragon with wings that flap when you move his tail, a pink swan with flapping wings, and a white cat or tiger with glitter pink stripes.  They all have a pawprint on their hip that has a diamond symbol in it.  They could just be McDonalds...not sure.

Someone back me up on this but I think the pink and white cat was a McDonald's Littlest Pet Shop figure from the 1990's.

As the link zuse provided shows, they were definately Littlest Pet Shop.  I remember when they were at McDs.  I had all four for a while, got three from Happy Meals, the fourth (unicorn) I found on the city bus.   I think I only have the dragon now.

I have the tiger.  I would agree, but they're made by Tonka so...  ???

It might have been that Kenner (under Tonka Corp.) had been working on the idea for LPS when Hasbro bought them out, and Hasbro decided it was a toy that would sell... and to keep it under the name Kenner, for whatever reason.
From what I understand, some major companies will create new divisions when they acquire other companies, turning those companies into the new divisions, dividing up different toy lines, and various other things that come with running a company (promotional items, advertisements for television, ideas for new products, etc.).  Perhaps Tonka became part of the division that oversaw the licensing of other companies producing Hasbro related toys?  Hence why "Tonka" might appear on the McD LPS toys?

Most of this is just conjecture on my part, as I don't (nor have I ever) worked for any of these companies.  Or any toy company, for that matter.
