Title: [Answer:No!] Are these rare MLP variations of Sundance & sparkly "Baby Firefly"?
Post by: Ghost Of The Doll on Saturday 04 December 2010, 10:51 pm
Holly emailed me these My Little Pony images and description and wondered if any of you MLP fans can help?

"Hello, my name is Holly I am an avid My Little Pony collector. I have two ponies that I can not find any information about ANYWHERE! It's driving me crazy!

"So the first pic is the adult pony. She appears to be an original "Sundance", but she is missing her circle of hearts on her bottom, and it looks as though it was never there. There isn't one trace of pink or any design on her bottom, also there is no signs of them being scratched or taken off.

Her marks on the bottom of her hooves are (her hooves are concave):
- Front right is C 83 HASBRO PAT. PEND
- Front left is HONG KONG

"Second pic appears to be "Baby Firefly" from the Sparkle Baby Ponies set. I have the actual one who has a purple body, this one although is yellow, and not just a faded yellow she is all over yellow, even in places like the base of her neck where it attaches to her body. I checked my purple one and she has no traces of yellow, she also is supposed to have orange hair. Mine has yellow and I've never seen their hair fade, I haven't seen a yellow one anywhere.

The bottom of her hooves are (hooves are concave):
- Front right C 1983 (the year is hard to see) HASBRO
- Front left -BLANK-
- Rear right MADE IN
- Rear left HONG KONG

"I've been collecting them since I was like 4 lol, so they were probly purchused at a garage sale or thrift store, but I've only gotten ponies in California!
Thank you again for your help. If you'd like to you can use my photos and put them into a forum. I'm not great at that sort of thing, but feel free to use any of my photos or info on you're site, which is AMAZING by the way!

Thank you,
Holly"

I haven't found any mention of a yellow sparkly Baby Firefly or Sundance with no symbols so am fascinated to know where they fit in!

The sparkle one might be variation.  Sundance might be a prototype.

You will probably get more info at the My Little Pony Trading Post or My Little Pony Arena.

I'm sure people there would love to see these.  Good luck!  =-)

I dunno... there are so many people out there maiming and customizing MLP and so many people paying some money for these things that there are people out there taking advantage. That being said, I'd want to know the ownership history of them. :-|

You'd probably get better answers on the mlparena. Sundance could easily have had her symbol removed with acetone and her hair does not look original to me. I'll bet somebody was customizing her.

Baby Mischeif/Firefly is supposed to have yellow-gold hair, not orange. However did she come up with the orange info? It almost looks like her body has reacted with her glue and some environmental conditions and become yellowed. She looks gummy.

I hate to say it but that Baby Firefly definitely looks faded. She doesn't even look yellow so much as off white. I would love to find a Sparkle pony (either adult or baby doesn't matter) like that since I would be able to dye it whatever color I would want.

Hi Guys, I've asked Holly to email me with any comments or replies she may have. I've also added in a couple of other images of  the ponies in question for comparison.

Baby Firefly is severely faded.   Because the Sparkle ponies are see-through, they can fade even on the inside, so the neck ring is no indication.   There is something with the Sparkle Baby plastic that has a tendency not to hold color, and it isn't unusual to find the Sparkle Babies with some level of fading of the body and hair, with the symbols and eyes still bright.  This is definitely the most advanced case of it I have seen, though.   Someone probably left it in an exposed place, with lots of direct sunlight, for far too long.   Maybe a child used it as an outdoor toy?

As for Sundance... some ponies did occasionally make their way out of the factories with missing symbols, but given there is no way to know for certain, as she is loose, she is not considered rare or valuable.

I agree with MercurialMonster about Baby Mischief. Something in the sparkly material of their bodies causes them to turn some very strange colours. It could also be a variant, but I suppose it's just a very extreme case of fading.

Sundance looks as though her symbol was removed, probably with acetone. I wouldn't go as far as suggesting that someone did it on purpose in order to make her look rarer than she is. Maybe someone started a customising project and then lost interest and decided to sell the pony instead.

i agree that sparkle baby firefly is just severly faded. i have my childhood one which was lost outside and then found well over a decade later. her hair held its color though but her body is like orange not purple. ive seen a few of this pony and they always were orange/yellow until one day a pony id site said she was supposed to be purple. i had no idea. then later i did find a purple one off ebay. so i think she is just faded. with sundance, not sure. could be a factory error or prototype. her hair looks different, darker. is her head sealed?
