"I have mermaids. They say SOMA 1991 Made in China. Each one has a number on the bottom. I have this set which is #'d 1-12. They are like PVC and approx 1" long."

UPDATE!!!
Jennifer emailed me a catalogue scan confirming these figures come from a set called Mermaid Island. There were 12 mermaids sold together with a foam island covered in palm trees (base seen in background of image), shells, gemstones and a treasure chest.
