Title: [ID: Little Souls] Name of a soft face/body doll from the 90's??

I'm trying to find the name of these dolls I had when I was a kid.

They were soft dolls similar to Cabbage Patch dolls but they had soft faces and bodies and the eyes were tiny plastic circles and the nose and mouth were just thread, if I remember correctly. You could get the dolls in different hair colors and skin color. They came in a box and inside was a card that said what their name was and I think some other information? You could get either a boy or a girl. I had one boy named Jason and a girl named Catherine.

The girls wore big flowery dresses and straw hats and had hard plastic mary-jane style shoes. The boys had brown baseball type caps and wore striped shirts with buttons decorations down the front but attached with velcro and dress pants with runners. I've looked everywhere to find the name of these dolls. I believe I got them in the early 90's. Oh! I also think they each had special "birthmarks" which would be a colour star or heart or diamond somewhere on their body. Anybody know? I would really appreciate it!!!!

Sigh. They were my favorite dolls as a kid...

Was the hair a normal plastic kind or yarn?

the hair you are talking about when you say normal plastic kind are we talking regular baby doll hair?

Is it a Mattel "My Child" doll from 1986-1988?  They came with various hair color, eye color, skin color, and clothing.  I know the mouth doesn't match your description but the eyes and skin do.  The skin is very soft!  He has a green heart on his rear.  Apparently the 1988 ones don't have the green heart on the rear.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Luckily when I came home for Christmas this weekend, I found out my Dad still kept my dolls in a box! I couldn't find a tag on them, but the bottom of their shoes had the name of them - Little Souls dolls. So excited. I loved these dolls so much. These are what they looked like:
