Title: [ID: Crystal Barbie] Two different Crystal Barbies????

Hiya,

I picked up a Crystal barbie in a charity shop a while back, still wearing her original dress and necklace.

Then my friend gave me a crystal Barbie for Christmas. The thing is, their faces and hair are very different.

Here they are:

This one's eyes look very different - the paint work looks.... unusual.

The number/country on her back doesn't match the one in Marcie Mellillo (spelling?)'s book. But I can't think what other Barbie she could be. I'm pretty sure she IS crystal.

Whereas this one...

does match the one in the book. But I remember (and have seen photos) of my childhood Barbie having curly hair.

Was there a difference between the USA and UK Crystal barbies?
Or was she re-released, looking slightly different?

Can anyone shed any light on this???

The only thing I (think) I know is that that Crystal Barbie was released multiple times over the years.  That would explain the different molds, but then again so would the US/UK difference I guess.

Did your friend get the one on the right from ebay? I think it's mine that I sold a few months ago lol that's crazy if it is! Hehe xxx

So you think they ARE both Crystal Barbie?

I'm not sure if my friend got her from Ebay, but she came to me via Australia. Was it an Aussie girl who bought her?

The one on the left is the crystal barbie I had as a kid, from new, in the UK, in the 80's
I distinctly remember her wierd purple very staring eyes :)
She is definitely the UK 80's release.

I don't recognise the right hand barbie maybe she is the USA one

I think both can be Crystal Barbies. I have seen three different Crystal Barbie in a flickr album  ;) => http://www.flickr.com/photos/15157516@N02/4695747135/

Always in a flickr album (an other one), I have seen four Crystal Barbie boxed with four different hair, so maybe it is the same thing for make up... ??? => http://www.flickr.com/photos/29292631@N07/4216164153/

Those differences are very common on the dolls made on the late seventies and early eighties, 'cause there were many different fabrics producing the same dolls in different countries of asia, like philippines and taiwan... Do your dolls have different markings on their backs? That could explain the difference between them.
