I'm no American Girl expert.
The colorful foam colored things look like curlers and the yellow thing looks like some type of topsy tail thing.

Aww! I was just at my parents house where I have all the old American Girl catalogs. I don't know why I kept them, but I have a huge stack of them in my old bedroom. I remember when they first came out with the American Girl of Today set of dolls and their accessories. I believe that was probably on the page with all the sleep over stuff. Those foam sticks are hair rollers and the loop is for making a topsy tail.
I think the blue tool is something used to make better french braids, but I'll have to check.

Wow! thanks so much!! I guess it would have helped if I kept the booklet!! I actually brought out my "old" American Girl stuff for a kid I was babysitting who is into the "new" stuff. She had a blast and thought the details in the old stuff was great, she was so overwhelmed. Anyway, we had our theories but were WAY off lol so thanks again, I appreciate it!

the topsy tail/pony flip thing was BIG in the mid 90s. I've never seen that french braider thingo. I'm pretty crap at doing hair so I'm a sucker for 'amazing, easy, quick hair-do' things. They tend not to be as awesome IRL as they appear on the ad though!

I am just glad to know what it really is, especially since I told the kid who asked that it looked like an animal catch pole that shelters use!! Wow was I off!! I actually used the topsy tail thing on my hair! I used to do it alot when I was little lol
