Hey everyone! I just discovered a bunch of new Yum Yums stuff on ebay. It looks like they're only in Japan right now. But there's lots of cute stuff! Mini plushies and plushie key chains! And stationary! I'm excited! I wonder if they'll find their way back to the states. This seller is who has them up for sale: http://shop.ebay.com/urbantreasurehunterjapan/m.html?_nkw=yum+yums&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3911.m270.l1313&_odkw=&_osacat=0&bkBtn=
I was just looking around the internet and look at these adorable mugs!

Adorable, but awfully expensive. If the shipping wasn't so high, I'd go for some.
-
Yeah. I didn't look at the shipping until after I posted. D: That's way too much! Maybe others will start selling them with better shipping.
-
there's a lot on ebay. i think maybe they just got their hands onto molds/patterns/etc and were able to make these things so i doubt they will be available anywhere but japan.

No I'm sure these are authentic merchandised goods. There's a big fan base in Japan for 80's toys thanks a lot to fairy-kei/pop-kei spank! style fashions. There's also a lot of popple stuff and care bears stuff too.

I was thinking they might be bootlegged. But that didn't make much sense, it all looks high quality and official. I did a little bit of googling and found this post that states they all have Hallmark tags:

Hey everyone, I live in Tokyo Japan, and Yum Yum's are actually available here! I found a store today that was selling the Yum Yum dolls (though smaller than the original versions), pens, stationary, towels, etc etc and everything had the scents. These were all brand new products so it seems Hallmark has licensed this property back out (everything had Hallmark tags) Leave it to Japan to resurrect something great!

And here's a little blog entry that has a great picture from in a store: http://chouzuru.blogspot.com/2010/01/cute-items-and-shopping-in-odaiba.html

If you seach in rakuten shops (www.rakuten.co.jp) There's a number of different products on there.
A Japanese clothing brand 6% dokidoki has made popple themed clothing and acceossories and there was an exhibition 'World of Popples'
http://tokyofashion.com/6dokidoki-girls-in-the-popples-room/ I would love some popples ear muffs!
Here is a blog post showing photos of a store that uses 80's toys

Here are some care bear nails:

I wish they bring out more accessory type stuff in Australia - it's a great way to incorporate love of toys into everyday!

wow! Those links were so fun! I didn't know 6% dokidoki were doing Popples! Those dresses! Neat and kinda creepy! I loved all of those photos! Thanks for sharing!

I attend anime cons so I'll see if the dealer's room hold any of this stuff when I go to my next one.

I saw those when they first came up (I do a regular ebay Yum Yum search) and almost jumped out of my skin when I saw them! But as said before, the shipping is awfully high, and I don't know... they just aren't the same.
I wonder what effect these will have on the regular 90s Yum Yum prices. Many of the ones I've sold have been bid up really high, and go figure, it turns out they were bought by someone in Japan.

EDIT: LOL I just noticed that in some pics from the rakuten shop the two characters I'm talking about are actually labeled as new :-X So I was right ::)
Did they add two new characters? ???
I was looking at the new Japanese Yum Yums on eBay and comparing them to the vintage ones, and I noticed two of the characters don't match with any vintage character (including the ones of the Party line)!
In theis group-pic (from the rakuten shop that Mouse mentioned) you can see there are 8 characters instead of the original 6.

The light pink bunny and the light blue/turquoise bear seem to be new characters ???
BTW, I'm new to this forum :) I'm Charlotte, 21, from Holland :D

Yay, toys that are true to the originals!!!
-
Those are awesome! I wish shipping was lower, I would get them if it was. Maybe if the sell well Hallmark will bring them over here.
I love those Popple earmuffs.
-
Wow the new versions look good. Nice find , and thanks for the info I will keep an eye out for these.
-
I think I saw one of the new Yum Yums today in a thrift store. It was hot pink. Just thought it was interesting!

well these are cute but now i have that stupid promo song for them stuck in my head thanks! :P
-
Are you sure it wasn't an original Yum Yums, Em? That seems more likely to me than one of these new ones to have already been sold (in a store where none of us have spotted it) and made it to a thrift store.
So... go back and save that Yum Yum! If you don't want it, the ebay gods demand it!
