From the 90's!
I had a good mess of these as well as the other animals. These were the best! Granted there was no fancy movement or sounds or flashy lights...they were simple little pvc figures that I would spend hours of my time on.
Who remembers them?
-
Oh me!! I have tons of them! Me and my sister used to play in the pool at my grandma's with them. We circled the inserts and eagerly awaited the new ones, but they never came! I assumed they weren't released until ebay hit, and then I found them all on ebay uk.. well, a lot of them, lol. Wrangling them all is pretty tricky, but I have made a good stab at it so far. What's weird is that I have found some at thrift stores that I could never find in the stores when they were out! So.. I guess they were released here?
-
I have a set - and always wanted more! I once got an 'In my pocket' magazine and saw they had the mummy and babies sets and I so wanted them but I don't think we ever got those in Australia.
-
I had tons of the Kitty in my pocket toys and a few play sets too unfortunately they did not survive child hood. :'(
-
I have almost all of them, up until the Animal Hospital series arrived and the vintage ones stopped.
I'll be taking pics of them all on saturday, hopefully sorted out according to series if I can remember them :)
-
I love Puppy/Kitty/Pony in my Pocket! I still have all of mine - My childhood best friend and I were really into them, and altogether we had hundreds of them and made up an elaborate society that they lived in, haha! I picked up my first ones while on a trip to England in 1995 (I was 7). It seems like they were way more popular in the UK... They became pretty hard to find in the US, even while they were still being produced. I remember they made sort of a comeback in the late 90s, though, when Irwin Toy started distributing them rather than Hasbro. But then they faded away again. :( Somehow, I got Irwin Toy to send me a big poster of all the In My Pockets that were supposedly available at the time, so I could order them over the phone, but when I tried to order the ones I wanted, it turned out that the only ones actually available were the "Secret Heart" series, and possibly the "Magic Vet Care" series as well. I thought, like zap18, that the others were never made, but then I also saw them later on Ebay UK - funny that we had the same experience!
I would love to see photos of people's collections! I want to photograph mine, but most of my collection is at my parents' house right now. Also, many of mine don't look like they originally did because my friend and I used to paint them with nail polish, partly because it was fun and partly because we had many of the same ones and we needed to tell them apart!
Sorry for the long-winded post, I'm just excited to be able to talk to other people who are into In My Pockets!

I have a good amount of the US puppies. I had a lot of kitties but gave them to a friend. I've built back 90% of my collection by now. I have all four sets of original momma and babies (though a few babies have wondered away). I also have a king charles spaniel set from later.
They had a series of puppies and wild animals in the late 90's that came in mystery packets with bone shaped candy and a card. Anybody know what these were?
-
Blippo, I know that Topps made "Precious Puppies," "Precious Kitties," and "Baby Wild Animals" (Check out http://vintage.talviuni.com/ for pictures of them, as well as In My Pockets). But I'm also pretty certain that Topps made Puppy In My Pockets - I've seen mention of it online that they made them and sold them in those single mystery packets with candy. I also remember seeing the mystery packets in the toy store once, with the Puppy In My Pocket logo on the front.
-
That's what it was, the topps series. Not puppy in my pocket. I had almost all of the dogs and wild animals and would have gotten them all if they didn't sell out and I never saw them again. I didn't find the kitties in stores, but I happen to have gotten ALaCarte at a rummage sale because it seemed like the same material and style. Thanks for the link, now I can remember their names.

I love In My Pockets! My best friend growing up had a bunch, but for some reason (probably because they were pretty rare around here) I never got any of them.
I did have 2 of the Momma and Baby wild animal sets. I have the Panda Bear and Grizzly Bear. Although one of the panda babies fell into the garbage disposal when I was playing with them in the sink.
I would love to collect these again, but I wouldn't know where to start! They're awfully hard to find :(

Where are you loacted? The best way to find puppy/other animal in my pockets is through the ebay.co.uk site and then if the person doesn't ship to your country - ask if they will! IMP animals also get mixed up in lots of 'animal hospital' animals so search those too. Hope that helps :)

Hi everybody. Im glad that you have found my vintage website 8)
It's true that TOPPS has manufactured in my pocket puppies too, first 24 puppies are under the TOPPS listing and they are marked with "MILTD" ,but M.E.G (Morrison Entertainment Group) manufactured those same puppies a bit later and they were marked of course with M.E.G :)

I did not know that topps did the same toy thanks for the information ;D
-
@flowersinherhair - You and your best friend sound me and my childhood best friend, only our toy of choice was My Little Ponies. They also had a society, couples were married and had children, they even had a mysterious pony Goddess (some odd brown horse from a garage sale, I'd give my eye teeth for a copy of her) who came to them in times of need.
I love the Puppy in my Pocket site! I would've went bonkers over the toys if I had known about them when they were around! I must admit, I'm been eyeing the new "Pocket" animals Octopuss set for no good reason. :P

WordFuzion - Aw, I loved My Little Ponies, too! I mostly played with them when I was really little, though, so I didn't have an elaborate world for them.
Raksuli - Thanks for the information about Topps! I have a clearer idea of the IMP timeline and which companies sold them, now... It seems (in the U.S., anyway) that they were first sold by Topps, then Hasbro, and then Irwin. And in the U.K. they were from Vivid Imaginations. Did Topps sell Puppy In My Pockets in the UK/Europe too?
Just out of curiosity, did anyone ever send away for the mail order IMPs? If so, which ones did you get? I really wanted some of the early-ish ones, like Mitzi the kitty and some of the ponies, but I had such a hard time finding IMPs in toy stores that I never collected enough points! In the late '90s, I was finally able to get some mail orders - I got Mark the puppy and Hazel the kitty, who were part of the Magic Vet Care line.
-
flowersinherhair, they were also sold in Europe (im from Finland) and UK. They were in small packets with candy and you never knew what puppy you will get :D The packet includes; one puppy, one fact card, puppy collectafile, one candy dog biscuit and a dog kennel. Now may i present a few pics of it :)
Here is the whole box

Yay for having some Puppy in My Pocket experts here! I was never around any as a kid so they're a complete mystery to me.
Until I'd discovered your web site the only site I had was this one:

That dalmatian's name was Rook here in the U.S. and it came with a show stand. I really outta get mine out and write down their names for U.S. collectors since all you can find is the European names. I just don't know where to post them.
-
Blippo, post those names in here I really want to add them to my website!! :)
-
I can help with American Kitty In My Pocket names! Only kitties 1-25 had different names in the U.S., and actually when Irwin started selling IMPs in the later '90s, they used only the UK names. Anyway, here goes:
1-Magnetic, 2-Parker, 3-Rustic, 4-Probe, 5-Oxford, 6-Milky, 7-Outwit, 8-Adhezo, 9-Encore, 10-Fantasy, 11-Scrabble, 12-Erin, 13-Fingles, 14-Mural, 15-Nugget, 16-Polyanna, 17-Orient, 18-Lauren, 19-Pivot, 20-Aimee, 21-Coventry, 22-Meadow, 23-Motif, 24-Plunder, 25-Alarm
I hope I got those all right... Actually the only Collectafile I have with me right now is a UK one that I wrote the American names on when I was a kid, so hopefully I spelled them all right! Haha.
-
I just found my collection! I have the US ones from zuse's link, almost all of them! I've got the cards, two different pamphlets, a bunch of show stages and the border collie mommy & babies.
-
Anybody ever notice some of their white dogs turning a sickly glowing yellow? I call them my radioactive pups and bag them seperately in storage.
-
Blippo, my Rook from childhood has always (or for a long time, anyway) had a neon yellow tint to him. I never noticed it being passed onto other white IMPs, though. It may just be a plastic deterioration thing... sadly, IMPs were not super well-made toys. :(
-
Oh my God I absolutely love them! I was obsessed with them when they first came out and the obsession sort of never stopped lol! The best Christmas ever was when my Mum got me 2 unopened boxes of them as my main present and I just sat and opened them all, I think I maybe squeaked with excitement a hell of a lot lol!! The best way to fill in the gaps in my collection I'm finding is to visit a looot of carboots so you can buy them individually instead of in lots. Plus it's really exciting when you find them :)
-
After posting that message I found some in a charity shop today! Got 5 to add to my collection, a good day all round :)
-
I recently bought a lot of Pony In My Pockets, and they came with weird cards that I've never seen before. I took a picture of the front and back of the cards (on top), along with the "usual" cards (on the bottom):
These weird cards came from an American seller. The normal cards shown are British, but I have American ones that are just about the same, they just lack the little blurb about the character. You can see that the art is different, too - it's actually pretty atrocious compared to the normal art! Very digital airbrush-y.
Anyway, has anyone seen cards like these before, or know anything about them? I'm curious about where they fit into the timeline of IMPs.
-
The kitty in my pocket had these too. I think they are showing the statistics of the animals. I remember the newer kitty in my pocket having these cards with them but not the original ones . Sorry that I have no pictures or any more information on them.
-
Yup, they are the stats! The symbols correspond to the sides of the die that came with the Puppy IMP show set. If I remember correctly, I think all the American cards had symbols rather than writing.
Ah, so these cards DID come with newer IMPs... I thought they looked later. I'm going to tentatively date them at 1996... around that time, IMPs were nowhere to be found in my area, for some reason, so that would explain why I didn't have any of this kind. And by 1997, they were being produced by Irwin rather than Hasbro (in the U.S.). Thanks for your help, Rider of the storm! :)

1992/92 kelloggs cornflakes ran a scheme where you sent off so many vouchers off the boxes and you got a set of puppy in my pockets....

I'm sure I still have some of these somewhere. They were the girl's equivalent of Monster In My Pocket.
