I've just got back from town, where I paid a pound for a beanie baby puppy who is filthy, and covered in bits of plaster. I'll post the Before photos up as soon as I can. Cleanup begins now.
Anyone else made any sympathy purchases?

Awwww
What do u do with them then? Do u keep them or sell them on? I'm planning on keeping this little puppy. :) What I think happend to him was, I think his old owner decided that he was hurt and he needed plasters on, because the plaster was all ripped up and in different places all over him.

I keep all of them, they are displayed on a shelf.
yes, you should keep him! ;D
-
:)
I saw him, thought oh, a pound's a lot of money and he's filthy, and left him there. Then I pictured him in my head, and began feeling sorry for him and wanting to buy him and bring him home to clean him up, and made up my mind that if he was there next time I was in town, I'd do just that. I fell in love with the image of him in my mind. I have two of this dog now, and he should have a red collar on, but he doesn't. He looks like a stray. I really would like to give him a permanant home here.
Edit: I just thought of a name for him. Patch, or Patches. He has to stay now.

for me it is MLP ponies I pick up baits to restore and some to practice on as well.
-
What do you mean, practice on?
-
To practice restoring. :P Or customizing. ..... I'm guessing.
-
Yup. A very bedraggled and unloved My Child doll which is now fully restored (but still unloved, as she is in the attic safe from my little girl!)

I do it all the time. I really need to stop because i just don't have room to keep everything

My collection is spilling out of my room.

It wasn't really a sympathy purchase but I have a beanie baby bird that I rescued out of sympathy!
It was at a time when McDonalds were giving them away in kids meals and I was walking home from school and just over the road from my house was a beanie baby blue jay discarded on the floor. Nobody was going to pick him up because he had a wing missing and all his beans had leaked out of this big hold where the wing should be. I didn't pick him up at first and went into my house but I could see him over the road from my bedroom window and when everyone had stopped walking past going home from school I went outside and rescued him.
First I fill him back up with rice and sewed up the side of his body. I then sewed a matching wing out of felt and sewed this back onto him. Rocket the Blue Jay was restored!
I still have him. Maybe I'll post a photo :-)

The only toy sympathy purchase was a bait condition she ra doll. It was the first time I have found a she ra doll at a flea market . She has a severe hair cut, is missing the jewel , and has a ton of paint loss. I could not let some one trow her out so I paid 50 cents for her. I will post a photo of her latter. I am not sure if I will be able to fix this doll.

That's amazing.
Elby, I'd love to see a picture of Rocket :) I have a little family of them, mother, father, and son. I think.
Rider, I'd have done that too. In fact, I'd have saved both Rocket AND the doll :)
I bought a pony from a bootfair the other week because it had really short legs and it looked like the kind of toy that would be thrown away.

Here is my she ra doll. I have no idea how to fix or restore it although she is in really bad shape.

Are you going to keep her?
-
I want to keep her but I would love to have some one show me how to restore her.

On my birthday I found a little plastic army man in the parking lot at Big Lots. Granted, he will probably end up at Goodwill, but I couldn't just leave the poor fellow all alone back there. :(

I've made a couple of notable sympathy "rescues":
While at an elderly family friend's house, I found a plush "Sunny Bunny" promotional hand puppet for Tupperware (I'm guessing they had a mascot at some point) and a pretty fairy rabbit plush with a taffeta dress and turquoise wings on the floor in a spare bedroom. Both bunnies' fur was smudged in several places with a faded reddish brown, and the woman said her grandchildren had probably once marked all over them with what she believed was lipstick. This was probably about six or seven years ago, and I still have them both after restoring them. The fairy rabbit, "Glory," is probably even one of my very favorite plushes!
I also have a Tails (from Sonic the Hedgehog) spinner/launcher from a Happy Meal that I found in a box of yard sale leftovers at my church. About half of his body sticker had been peeled off and he was missing the launcher base entirely. :(

I used to a taxi to school, and the driver once stopped on the way to school to pick up this little plushie dog lying at the side of the road. He gave him to me. I think I stil have him somewhere. It's been years since I've seen some of my toys.

I found a little mcdonalds toy in the courtyard of a church the other week. He's standing on my chest of drawers at the moment with a couple of other small finds.

I recently bought a gen 1 mlp off of a site called blujay, and it was the pony magic hat , she is badly needs a new tail and a few mane plugs though. I will say the inside is very clean and she is now white again instead of being a dingy grey, and the mane is perfect, however the tail was only a tiny bob of a tail. I took the old tail out and have a new one on the way.
