Was browsing through the 1991 Mattel dealer catalog today and noticed these. They were never produced. The 1997 reincarnation of MLP looked an awful lot like these!!! :-O

Those are kinda cute. They do look like the G2 line just chubbier.

Wow! That is crazy!
They don't remind me much of the other Little Pretties though. They need to be... fatter. Bigger heads. But not in an ooky G2 LPS way.
They kind of look like the bandai SSC horses, a little bit.

Was that comb used in another toy line? It looks familiar.

I like this idea better than the new line of my little ponies we have now.

Yeah, apparently Mattel was thinking of giving Hasbro some competition. I wonder why they killed off the Little Pretties (cats/dogs) line before the ponies came out? Wasn't 1991 and 1992 about when the first generation of MLP lost its steam, though?

Here are all the LP pages from that catalog:

Yeah, I think they never came out with the Fillies because Little Pretties and MLP weren't selling as well anymore. I recall from a convo I had with my Mattel contact something about Mattel pushing them out in favor of another toy line, but I don't have my notes with me right now. I don't think any of the Mattel memos I have mentioned it. They really do look like G2s, don't they?
I have a MLP sizzle video showing that they had plush LPs in the works, too.
EDIT: Oh, and the combs were used for Barbie, I think. Probably other Mattel toys as well.
