Alright, this could be fun! I'm gonna try and remember to post here with the highlights of my constant thrifting excursions.
Got bunches of stuff to sell at a flea market yesterday, a lot of G2 petshop and a bucket full of Barbie stuff. Personal triumphs though:
- a Playskool dollhouse baseball player (off my want list, huzzah!)
- Tons of She Ra dolls with accessories, mostly common (except for their condition), but also... a Mexican Angella! She has the dark blue jewel, hair highlights, and differently constructed pants that mark her as a foreign variant. Woo hooo!
-
Awesome! Congrats!!! Great Finds!
-
I have not had any time to go to the flea market :'( but nice finds.
-
Ok, this time (for the only time probably, this was work!), an example of my typical haul. This is for selling and keeping, and spans two days of thrifting. This is a solid example of why I have... a lot.

Personal highlights include:
- My Size Barbie- never had one before, and I think she's pretty cool!
- Tuggles cat- Tuggles are stalking me right now, but I dig it.
- Barbie Rollerblade Kira top (now just need her shorts and skates and fanny pack to complete my series!)
- Barbie Sun Jewel Kira swim suit (another clothes piece I needed)
- Several Kens I needed (I have been IDing mine lately, so the Ken hunt is on)
- A Barbie Mulan horse and Barbie horse I didn't have yet
- Some modern Care Bear baits for a project I am working on (plus DG baby ponies)
- Madame Alexander dolls from the 50s (I will probably keep both for now, even though I would usually just keep the 9 incher, because the market is hard to read right now)
Obviously tons of sell stuff, but highlights:
- Pocket Dragon plush
- Merwee male
- Tons of Sweet Streets houses on the cheap
-
WOW!!! That sure is a lot of stuff for just 2 days of thrifting...awesome. :) Big congrats on all those wonderful finds!
-
Holy cow! :o What a weekend!!!!
Any tips for people who want to find more on their thrifting adventures? Ohhh, can I rub your head for good luck? :P
-
This wasn't even the weekend :D Have a clearance goodwill store by you? That's the way to go. I get most stuff for $1.50 a pound. I find it is better in some cities than others though in regards to quality of stuff.
-
The last town I lived in had a clearance goodwill. That's were I figured you had to get all that stuff. :-D
It was amazing. I got to where I'd go every day after work. They thought I was a freak. But I was raking it in on eBay!
-
It's a bit of a drive for me to get to the really good store, or I'd be there all the time. Kind of a good thing it's not near me. Waaaay too addictive.
Intermittent reinforcement, all the way.
But the selling on ebay is fantastic, I agree. Can't beat it, plus I get to keep way too many things!
-
WOW!!
Where do you live and can I come with you next time? ;D
-

Ok I love that line. :P Yeah wow! Holy Cow Wow! I mean fairies, dollies, ponies, just some really cool stuff. Now I feel like a fool getting all excited to find Rhinokey and a Giant Snoopy in the plushie bin lol
-
My tips for finding the best stuff is go to the smaller thift stores. Not the major ones like Goodwill and Value Village. The smaller places tend to have better stuff due to being not as well known.
-
Wow! Such fun pictures! If you do decide to post your hauls again, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would enjoy it. Merwee!? Lemme know when you sell him!
-
I definitely will Batty :) When I saw him, I was like, "Woo hoo!" and then "... Uh oh." :D
Now there is the pressure of dealing with him knowing how many people here are hunting Merwees. I figure ebay is the fairest.
He's not in great shape or anything, but I'm still so glad I was able to rescue him.
-
Wow! Such fun pictures! If you do decide to post your hauls again, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would enjoy it. Merwee!? Lemme know when you sell him!
Haha, I swear batty you've got a merwee magnet. LOL how in the world did you spot him in all that? I can see it now you'll have merwee minions right? :P
-
haha! Well I didn't just spy him in there. I looked at all of the pictures and then read zappy's text below the pictures, then I went through them all again and spotted him. Once I knew he was in there he was easy to find though. hehe
-
Ahhh ? Smooshie mouse love them xxx :)
-
Wow, that just astounds me! That's a great haul, haha.
I'm actually really jealous because I can't seem to find good vintage/thrift stores in either of my "locations." (Family lives one place, but I go to college somewhere else!)
We have a Brass Armadillo here, but a lot is antique stuff and not a lot of thrifty things. I tried going garage sale-ing last weekend and that was a bust, and the local Goodwill is not good and doesn't have a clearance section. :(
But congrats, haha hopefully someday I'll be able to have a treasure as good as that!
-
I have not had any time to look at sales around here I am hopping to go out this week end but work keeps eating into my time to look at the thrift stores . There is only two here were I live , and they are not that nice. :'(
-
Went to the local flea market but no one is selling toys at all :-X ! There was a handful of people selling toys but nothing great. I found a jewel rider horse but they wanted five dollars for it, and it had no accessories so I passed it up it was there last year too.
-
Ok, here we go again :) This is one day at my thrift store, plus a flea market run. Not as good as the last time, but there are some nice pieces.

Personal Highlights:
- A new Kitty Kitty Kitten! I have tons of these, but this one opens up new questions- apparently, they came in clothes! It's tag marks it a "Fancy Kitty Kitty Kitten." I knew about the babies, but this was a surprise. Awesome.
- Some very nice shape Barbies. I'm selling most of the ones in the shot, but those Midges are home, baby.
- The AA skydancer. I've never had a black one before, and this one is just gorgeous.
- Two vintage Polly Pocket dolls that I didn't have.
- More DG fakie ponies!
Selling highlights:
- Umm, good quantity of a lot of my lot builders
- Moon Dreamer, LLL doll
- Very nice Chubble
All sorts of goodies :)
-
You got a pink Moncchichi!!
SOOO cute!!
Nice haul!!!
-
Wow again! I see you got a starcastle carriage down the front there
-
Nice job with the toys you found today. I only found action figures today at one of the flea market the market for toys as dropped like a rock in water no one seems to be interested in buying them at all. :( I wonder were have all the toys gone ?
-
Wow, I'm super envious of how much stuff you found on just one day! I just moved to a new city and I checked out the local Salvation Army and Goodwill, but neither of them even had a section for toys! I wonder if they're auctioning them online or something. :(
-
At least here in NY there are new lead laws with toys, and many places including the salvation army's here are refusing to take donated toys any more. By law now every newly made toy has to be tested for lead and those that are tested are destroyed. >:( A lot of people here have thrown out toys that were perfectly fine due to these new laws.
-
Wow! Can I come over and play? lol Seriously, not as good? I wish my hulls where 1/2 as good as yours! And I love the little grey kitties down front awww.
-
I am sooo jealous! Great finds.
-
well super nice finds i wonder if our flea market will have anything good soon
-
Ok... this is weeks old. Over a month, at least. I took it but then took a trip and got terribly behind, so I'm only just now getting to posting it. I have another picture round as well from... a while ago :P I will get to posting it a little later.
Let the "I Spy" game commence... NOW!

I already sold the Doodle Doll on ebay, and it turns out it was to a member here! Small world!
-
Awesome finds! Ever think of posting sales on here??? I would likely buy.
-
Generally speaking, I sell on ebay because I get so much and I can move it quicker, but when people PM me about stuff here, I will usually sell it to them :)
Haha, I was just pondering posting in the hoarding thread.. can you see why?? I can't leave toys behind to be junked! Can't. Do. It.
-
What is your ebay store?
-
Yes I bought the doodle doll :)

-
Awesome! You must be thrilled with it! Hehe :)
-
Aww, she looks so sweet Leonie!! I always love your pictures :) I'm glad she made it to such an awesome home!
I sell on ebay under zap18. I'm not sure there is anything of particular 80s goodness up right now- I tend to be slower listing that stuff because I hold onto it longer for potential trades. I will have a big my little pony round up soon though... after I put them up on the forums and see if there are any trades to be had! Most of my listings just ended too :P (Ok, just looked... yeah, nothing exciting up right now, lol! I need to get listing!)
Now that the Buy It Nows show up with the search results, I have been definitely experimenting with those more (I used to do auctions exclusively). You can definitely get a higher price for it this way, if anyone wants my opinion :P
Anyways, if there is something you really like in my pics, always feel comfortable to ask me! I might not have it still, but you never know :)
-
wow !!! SO many great finds!! I'm in shock!! but... that pink monchichi!!! it is so cute.. do you still have her..? is she for sale?!! :D

Aww, sorry, she has already been sold. She was a cutie though, I agree!

Going to the flea market on sunday if the weather is nice . I hope I get some nice finds there.
-
Ohh i wonder what ponies you have =]

Ohh i wonder what ponies you have =]
Tons :P G1, G2, G3, UK... lots of em. I'm actually going to be liquidating them off on ebay very very soon though- the G1s are already in lots. I saved them up to sell at the fair... and because I was lazy... and now they are taking over! Some of these are gone, and a lot are already slated for ebay, but here is the link to the trade post I had on the arena (it's under my sister's ID):
http://www.mlparena.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=247146.html
On a personal note, my own Pony collection is getting really really close to being complete (well, non-nirvana complete)!!! Very excited :D
-
Have you got a link to your ebay? x
-
Sure! Here it is:
http://shop.ebay.com/zap18/m.html
As usual, you can pm me here too if there is something you want :) The G3s aren't ready yet... though I don't have many purple for some reason... Lucy!!!!
-
Lol!!! Sorry about that!! Oo someone signed the first one of your ponies! Stephanie Romanov from Angel x
-
Oooh, that's an interesting one! Keep em coming!!
-
Next one is probably going to be La Roux! I shall keep you posted :) x
-
I haven't done one of these in awhile but I had a pretty spectacular thrifting day so I thought I'd share. The highlight is a massive amount of vintage Ponies, several hard to find, with tons of accessories!

Lots of fun things in there for my auctions also. But the ponies! My sister was actually the one to score them, and I'd say she just about had a heart attack grabbing them all up :D
-
Found Waldo! HeeHee
Jealous of all the ponies.
Nice Finds
-
Found Waldo! HeeHee
That was awesome :D
-
Nice job!
Here's my question (and maybe this has been discussed before but I'm too lazy to go back and read!)
How do you manage the sheer volume of stuff?!? I figure some is your collection but the rest is going to theoretically fund your collecting/pay for itself. I find that I enjoy "rescuing" toys but it sorts of breaks down at the storage/reselling stage. So, after you display that haul for the photo what happens next?
(I've seen your collection toy shelves pictures! They are impressive!)
-
Wow nice finds!! :)
-
I second zuse's questions. ::)
-Em
-
I'm always scouring your photos for Furry Families haha!
-
Nice job!

Umm, well, let's see. I guess first of all, I live in Texas. Big houses :D
Second, me and my sister are a collecting/selling team, so it goes quicker. We have an area set aside for some shelves with the selling stuff (boxes for all the categories that I sell, plus a bit of a plush pit). After the pictures, toys get sorted through the system, and when the lots "ripen" with enough stuff in them, they get sold. We are on top of it right now- stuff in this new picture is already shipping out. We aren't always so good, but it's nice when we are. I have had more time this year to thrift, but in the next year things will probably slow, alas. It was fun while it lasted though! And we certainly won't stop entirely.
On the collecting front, we have lots of collection shelves for our own gazing pleasure- I can't remember the last time we took an updated photo, but we have been hoping to soon (my sister organizes everything, and it looks fantastic- it makes my toy loving heart sing). PVCs that are not currently in favor sadly have to go in drawers for the time being. Someday... I want an even BIGGER house :D Or my toys can have.. their own house!
Umm, I guess that's the best I can do for an answer. I'm not always sure how we work it myself :D
Oh, and Lucy, if I get any more Furry Famillies, I'm afraid I'm going to have to hide them in one of these pictures now :D Waaaay harder to find than Waldo.
-
ROCK ON GIRL!!
That is the best all in one haul I have ever seen. And I was jazzed because I found a Yum Yum and a G1 today . . . LOL.
-
i can not believe the pony tex and the others have all their accessories i am jealous. ;) to bad the thrift stores near me do not have any good stuff.
-
I always get excited when you post more pictures in your thread because I love looking through and seeing all that's there! :)
So I know this has kind of been asked before, but where would you say a majority of these toys come from? I know you mentioned the Goodwill Clearance Center, but I've never been to one, so I don't know what they're like. Do they sell plushies as well?
Haha sorry for all the questions, but I just really admire your thrifting skills! Haha.

Found this image on the internet:
This is what mine was like. You have to DIG! Sometimes even if you get a bin that has been out for a few days you might just look in the one place someone missed and find something awesome. I used to live in a city with one of these and I went about every other day after work since it was on the way home. It was for about a year but they got embarrassingly familiar with me. Now I probably haven't been thrifting in months. :(
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8tO5Yuu5LbQ/TBatUTtRnCI/AAAAAAAAALo/zCAFU1OxzSA/s1600/goodwill+bins2.jpg)
Obviously it's predominantly clothes. EVERYTHING is mixed in together.
They wheel them together so that two are back to back and form a row. Then there's an aisle between the next row. My place had 3 rows of 4 bins x 2 bins of "Household Goods" (aka toys with sometimes other random crap mixed in). It was awesome. You pay by the pound. So rarely would I buy board games or things like that here.
There was also another row of books there. Obviously those have a separate rate. I rarely found good stuff there but I did find a mint copy of the instructions booklet for the Dark Tower game there once. :D
The one I go to you don't get a shopping cart. You get basically a tall blue trashcan on wheels. The line them all with a gigantic shopping bag. At the end you roll your little cart onto the scale (which is calibrated to the weight of the cart) and they weigh it. Then you just take out your bag and go! :)
-
Hey zuse what is the name of the store in the photo? I am just curious ::)
-
I don't know that one specifically, but they're part of Goodwill Industries. Mine was called Goodwill Clearance.
http://frugalliving.about.com/od/bargainshopping/p/GW_Outlets.htm
They're usually in places that just get a really high volume of donations, I believe. My city had at least 8 to 10 normal Goodwill stores sprinkled around.
-
That looks like so much fun. In my state the Mormons have TONS of donation stores called "the DI" or "The Deseret Industries" there are no stores like that at all since 90% of the populace is Mormon so they bring their extras there. No places like that. I bet you really have to fight!
-
Thanks zuse the good will store in the local area stinks. 99% of all the stuff they are for sale are clothes and the last time I was there there was only generic plush toys. I do not think I will shop there again. Why can't I have good thrift stores where I live :'(
-
zuse's image is pretty accurate, but I must say that it does very much vary by city as to what shows up there in terms of quality. Also in terms of the competition you might face, and how large the facility is. Also in how well they sort it- for example, in the stores I frequent clothes are not mixed in with the other stuff.
As I said, I live in Texas, which means there is a large Hispanic population that is very accustomed to a flea market lifestyle, so competition is very present. Many people will just pour toys into giant tubs they bring in, and it gets a little pushy. But my sister has pointy elbows, so that helps :D
It's pretty wild, and not for the faint at heart.
-
There are sooo many items on your last thifting photos I want.
Gizmo, Lil Miss Mermaid, PJ Sparkles, and on and on and on!
-
It's been so long since I updated this, but I just haven't had time to take such epic pictures! I am still shopping hard though :D
I went to the flea market today, and while it isn't as huge as a lot of my hauls, I thought it had some nice variety:

This was fun for me today because I actually found a few pieces for my own collections, which isn't so easy to do in thrift stores any more. I hadn't picked up that Crepes Suzette mini yet for example, so that was a fun one. Plus, some good sales items. Overall a nice little haul :)
Oh, the Super Hero Squad figures are for a custom project, so it's ok they don't have arms, lol!
-
Wow you really got some great stuff!! I can't really tell though what are the disney items?
-
I want the disney playsets :) How freakin' awesome that you found four MIB!
-
Nice find I would like to know who is the purple and white horse with the green wings is .
-
The Disney sets are Polly Pocket sized playsets that go to the Magic Kingdom line- they are rides from the theme park :) So cute!
The blue and purple pegasus is a Fantasy Fillie horse, similar to Fashion Star Fillies only smaller, and made by the company that made Grand Champions.
-
Do they fit together to make a bigger carnival set?? They really are cool looking
-
No furry families? *looks hopeful* lol!
-
I did not find much at yard sales today the only good find was a vintage baby tugs care bear plush for 25 cents. One eye as yellowed a bit and so has his nose, and the heart on the bottom of the bear no longer has care bears on it and the tush tag is a little frayed . I really dont want this guy so if any one wants him PM me . He is a vintage care bear plush the tag reads kenner 1983.
The only other finds I had was I found one of the kitty surprise sleeping bag ones but I forgot to grab the sleeping bag it came with :'( and the ribbon and the bottle it is supposed to have was not there. I also found a rainbow brite 3-d eraser from the UK how in the world did it over here.
These three items are going into my sell page if you want them pm me thanks.
