I literally just sold my Teddy Ruxpin on ebay, he had two tapes with him, such a shame! x
-
I had a doll that had a tape player in it I think the name was Cricket or something like that. I think it was from the 1980's but can not remember who made the doll. One of the books was called Cricket goes camping.
We also used to have one for cooler from pound puppies too I should have never gotten rid of him !
-
Cricket was made by Playmates. There was also an older sister doll called Jill. My cousin use to have a Cricket doll.
-
Thanks I wish I still had the cooler tape player we had so much fun with him. I think he broke my dad tried to fix him but it did not work so we threw him out.
-
i think with teddy ruxpin they also made a tape player for him as a non baby as well for his pal grubber as well i saw one once

Don't forget, apart from Baby Teddy Ruxpin there was the regular Teddy Ruxpin and also a talking Grubby:

Smarty Bear:

Hasbro made two Yakkity Yak talking toys in the 80's, both designed as puppets, they speak via a voice box, no cassette, operated by a button in their mouth.
Bingo Bear

And my own Monkgomery Monkey...

Along with my talking Cabbage Patch Kid and Talking Wrinkles.
The CPK and Wrinkles don't use cassettes either, they have a huge vocabulary and are by far the most intelligent of the talking toys, they have numerous sensors in their bodies and respond accordingly if you touch their hand, tummy, turn them upside down, etc. They came with a cup and bone respectively, which they beg to be fed with. The cup and bone are interchangeable for either toy. Two talking CPK's will interact and converse together.
There's also an detailed article on talking toys from 1986:

Nice pictures and thanks for the information. Now if only some one could find a photo of the pound puppy storytelling doll I used to have.
-
Great thanks for the pics Coma! :)

I will have to keep my eye out for Grubby he is cute.

I still have my Mother Goose and her nephew, Hector. I really couldn't part with them, because until I was a teenager they always sat on my dresser and even though they didn't get moved much, Mother Goose was like the guardian of the place where my toys lived. Others would go to her for advice. And Hector was like her little buddy, lol.
And I just had a great idea! I'm redoing my doll room and displaying my 80's toys....I wanted to do a shelf of the books I have left from my childhood, and I think Mother Goose and Hector should be involved with that! Thanks for starting the topic that started an idea, Leonie! ;)

Nice find congratulations ;D

I had a audio tape "told" by Cricket about the three little kittens that lost their mittens and some other tale when I was a kid. I remember a grey cat came with it but can't find any evidence of it. Anyone remember it?
-
OMG someone who shares the same obsession!! I absolutely love teddy ruxpin and EVERY OTHER STORYTELLING TOY!!!!!!!!! Hence the username.....
-
I love cricket (and even have one I rescued from a trashcan (still works too though she is nakie)
Miribelle: So that's what one looks like I have the video it came with but have never seen the doll itself (even after a google search I couldn't find a pic of that doll)
Cricket had an older sister? I thought it was just a brother she had. (Corkey)
-
Cricket's sister was named Jill.
-
Interesting (But then I only have the one video) Does anyone have a picture of the sister? I googled but only found criket and corkey picks.
-
I love that Baby Teddy Ruxpin! I have never seen him before. :) I still have my old Teddy Ruxpin with a pile of old tapes and books... I don't know if he still works though-- I haven't tested him in a long time. I even had Grubby briefly, but we could never get him to work and so my mom returned him. We even tried getting another one, and that one didn't work either. I was heartbroken!
How about Julie, the talking doll from Worlds of Wonder? I had her too, but I have no idea what happened to her! She was similar to Cricket and Jill.
-
There was a commercial for the Jill doll on youtube or dailymotion. I forget the exact site.

Yeah that's the commercial.
-
Cute but creepy.. I like it lol!
-
My Cricket is coming in soon, as well as my Spinoza, who is now here!!
About Julie, I know about her, she had metal fingers, that, if the correct cartridge was inserted, she would follow along to the storybook, witch had magic words for her to read.

I don't know if you are interested in the talking doll pets but this is one I've been looking for for years
