Thought I'd start a post for each incarnation of the Pound Puppies. I'll post a 1980s Tonka one too so that they don't get mixed up. :)
(I actually think there's a version out now as well, but let's stick with the vintage ones at the moment!)
This includes Pound Puppies, Purries, Bunnies, Piggies, Jungle, etc. Also the plastic mini playsets!
The Archived Galoob.com is actually in really good shape! So, check that out too!

This was the only set that I ever owned growing up:
(my cousins, however, were OBSESSED with them)

I was going to post about pound puppies - I'm interested in collecting the mini playsets and want to know how many there were and what animals they came with etc... the web-site you posted has pictures of most of them but anyone know of anymore? Vanillascoop - you posted that one for sale, do you remember what it came with originally?
-
^ originally it was only the jungle animals, a zebra tiger and elephant.
the dogs and cats were from a seperate pack :)
(and btw i got your PM and i've seen the car- i remember having it except it was a different colour. sorry i didn't get round to replying :))

I think I had the dolphin one at some point, but I had a lot of the dogs too I should have kept them.
-
Oh wow a dolphin! I love dolphins.. >.>
The horses were some of the saddest looking ones to me. Like, "Adopt me.. please.. I'm so sad ;.;".
I do think it's interesting how many different animals they made!!

I love the mini Pound Puppies (and other animals) cuz they're so cute but don't take up much space, and there's a lot of variations with them too, which can be fun to collect. :) Besides the obvious coat color, there's variations in ear shape, nose color, and eyelid paint color. I went ahead and gathered up all mine that I could locate for a photo...

I love the kitty that's gray with dark gray stripes, I think I had her. Sooo cute!! Nice collection you have thar. :B

I had pound puppies that were on a leash and you could "walk" them because their feet were like pedals! And the babies leashes could be attached to the tails, so one hooked on to moms and then the next puppy could hook onto the previous puppies tail!
I had several pound puppies and a few pound purries, jungle, bunny and ponies. Never even knew about pound ocean! A quick ebay search showed me there were also pegasus and unicorn forms and pound piggies.
I should dig these guys out and maybe try to make a collection out of them! ;)
-
Sounds like you already have a collection MissAli!
-
I have a few pictures of ones I have up for sale, not sure if they help at all and I'm afraid they're a bit dark but here goes...

Hello! I'm Jazz this is my first post but I wanted to share these playsets with everyone. They were a favorite of mine growing up. I don't know how many they made but I do own 13 of them and know at least 3-5 more exist. If you know the actual names I'd be glad to add them to my information, the ones I do know are in Italics. All photos are clickable thumbnails :) If you have pictures of playsets I don't have I'm sure interested in seeing them. I just added a few photos from ebay for id purposes and I don't claim to own them.
First off is the Super Pound Playground Van, the first playset they made:
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/th_IMG_1771.jpg) (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/?action=view¤t=IMG_1771.jpg)
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/th_IMG_1772.jpg) (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/?action=view¤t=IMG_1772.jpg)
Came with these 7 figures:
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/th_IMG_1830.jpg) (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/?action=view¤t=IMG_1830.jpg)
Next they made a series of large sets called Pet Carrier Playsets these had the same design on the outside one side a picture of a pound puppy the other a pound kitty. I have these two playsets the Teal one is called: Pet Paws Stadium, and the pink one is called Pet Paradise. Each Playset came with 5 figures
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/th_IMG_1778.jpg) (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/?action=view¤t=IMG_1778.jpg)

Then the playsets started having themed side images
They also made a yellow Circus playset called Circus O' Fun Images from Lancer

Small sets: These were called Hideaway Playsets Each set came with 3 figures
If you lived in the UK, some of the hideaways had different handles where in the us they were molded in the uk they were a thin handle. Not sure on this info but Lancer's sets are a bit different than mine with handles so this is one possible explanation

It doesn't resemble any of the figurines I have that go with the playsets.
These are the 3 types:
flat, plump, 3D

I'm newish to forum but I've been using the site to ID for about 2 years :p Thanks to MLP Arena. Your probably right. The eyes don't look the same either.
-
I love these! I definitely had some as a child. The large van playground I had (and I hope I still do!) I had several of the smaller ones (the carriers and hideaways) and the large one at the bottom. I know I still have the large one!
We had amazing toys as kids.
-
I also have another theory that the small playsets you can tell which were first and second series by the handles. First series had molded and the second had the thin move-able handles. :)
-
*bump, Added more information!

From what her resume says, Erica Carlson designed those mini Pound Puppies.

I had no idea that Galoob produced so many Pound Puppy playsets! Thanks for all the information and images jazzmatazz, it's completely invaluable in helping me put together a page for them! ;D
Now on to organising all the Hornby/Tonka, Galoob and Mattel Pound Puppies I've collected...

you're welcome. :) I really wanted to find out more about my collection so I started asking around and stalking ebay listings. I do hope to complete all the playsets at some point but the small hideaways don't come up often on ebay.

Since you have a full page up now I'll add updates in additional replies. Today I've found some great MIP photos of the Happy Home Hideout & The Safari on ebay. I contacted the seller due to the fact one side of the box has an ad for the beach set so hopefully we will have a name for that set soon.
*edit* got a reply from the ebay seller :D
The beach playset is called: Beachside Hideaway Set and a confirmed ID on the figures shown in the pictures received from Lancer.

The Happy Home Hideout shows which figures came with it, I'll update with a closeup later I do have them. It feels great to find what figures I have go to what set. :D I know I've lost 3-4 over the years and they were all mixed up in different sets since I played with them so much as a kid.

*Update
Ebay right now has the mansion set with box
So the official name is: Pet Mansion Playland
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/th_petmansion.png) (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/?action=view¤t=petmansion.png)
I figured it had Mansion in the name since I've always referred to it as the Mansion :)
*edit 3/27
I just won on ebay a rather large lot of the pound puppy playsets that has the ice cream shop in it so I'll be uploading some higher resolution photos of that playset as soon as I get it :) now all I need to complete my known sets is the mini hideaway park set!

An Ad I found Online:
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/th_pndpuppy.jpg) (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/guitarpianofreak/?action=view¤t=pndpuppy.jpg)
Alright Some better High Resolution shots of the Mall Playset! I think it may have been an upright figure set as the car has a pin for an animal to sit but the flat figures are too large in length to fit into the seat.
