In around 1990, I got a doll who was around the same size as Skipper. She was called 'Skatie' and had on very early 90s neon clothes - bermuda shorts (in a bright greeny-yellow with patterns) and a white t-shirt with a pattern that matched the shorts sewn on. I think she came with a skateboard (it would make sense!)
She had very long blonde crimped hair and was very pretty!
I would love more info on her if anyone recognizes her?

Was it like this doll by Kid Kore? (Apparently it's from 1991, though...) Maybe there were blonde versions...?

Nope, that's not her (those dolls are pretty cool though!)
My doll was definitely called 'Skatie' and she came alone!
I wish I still had her!
-
I hope you find your doll Laura, but I'm glad I saw this thread before I made one about my skating doll lol, because I'm pretty sure I had that Kid Kore doll. I'd been searching for a Barbie with skates and hadn't found anything I remembered, but I think that one is her! Thanks zuse!

**********UPDATE*****************
I think these are 'Skatie's shoes:

The orange-colour was done by me!
I hope someone remembers her! ??? ??? ??? ??? :'(

In around 1990 I got a doll from Woolworths (UK). She was a bit smaller and podgier than Skipper and on the front of the box, it said 'SKatie'
She was dressed in skateboard clothes- green bermuda shorts and a white t-shirt with some of the same material from the shorts stitched onto it. She also had white trainers/sneakers.
She was a beautiful doll with really long 'crimped'/crinkly blonde hair and thick curly bangs/fringe.
She had blue eyes and dimples in her cheeks.
This doll was adorable and quite frankly I was an absolute fool to part with her, as I loved her for years and played with her all the time.
I'm absolutely desperate to find her again but I've searched everywhere and haven't come up with anything.
I don't know who made her.
I would be so grateful for ANY info about her.

Was she not Kid Kore?
Hmm... sorry, I swear this wasn't attached to the other message earlier. ;) I saw a Kid Kore doll earlier today, though, that was like this but blonde, and she had a bicycle on her shirt, so I guess that they made more than one of these "athletic" dolls...
-
Sorry, I forgot to reply to say that I merged these two topics as they were both posted by Lauralovelylocks about the same doll.
-
Hiya,
Nope she looked nothing like these Kid Kore dolls.
-
Her hair isn't crimped, though. http://www.club-sindy.com/skateboard_box.htm
Well, I guess that she doesn't match your description at all, does she? -hehe-
-
Nope.
-
She's not similar to Skateboard Shannon from this thread is she?
http://ghostofthedoll.co.uk/Forum/index.php?topic=1416.0
-
Nope - she was little. Shorter than Skipper.
-
She looked quite like this doll:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/36785693@N02/5180989760/
Who is Gloria by Tong.
My doll's face, eyes and hair were very similar, although my doll was smiling more and had dimples in her cheeks.
Again, my Skatie doll was shorter than Skipper, with larger (chubbier!) body, legs and arms and bigger hands and feet than Skipper.
-
Is Gloria the same thing as Betty Teen??
Or could she maybe have been one of these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/FASHION-FRIENDS-DOLL-PRETTY-TEEN-7010-NRFB-MINT-1990-/350306535138?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item518fe586e2
-
May she have been one of these? There were apparently several in the "Sports Kids" line.

-
So she's definitely not 'Awesome Skateboarding Stacie' (Mattel)? Cos she has those same white shoes it would appear...Stacie does sound like 'Skatie', a bit. Lol. Probably released later than when you got your doll though.

All the skateboarding, rollerblading, rollerskating dolls I've come across all have long blonde crimped hair, lol.
-
Nope - NONE of these ones are my doll!
What a mystery!
I'm going to try and dig out a photo of her.........
-
This doll is called 'Skatey' and has blonde hair and roller skates...my, she has big feet though. You probably would have mentioned those, lol. This one is remote control too.

-
Nope - still not her!
Wow, this doll is turning into a mystery!
I'm going to look through some old photos later to see if I have any of the mysterious Skatie.
I wish I hadn't given her to a charity shop a few years ago! :(
-
I found photos of Sssssssssssskatie!!!!
And here she is next to Sindy as a size comparison:
This is not her original dress (I think it's a Barbie one) she came wearing a white t-shirt with patterns stitched one, Bermuda shorts and white trainers.
-
There are two other 80s dolls that look really similar to your Skatie. Look at how the arms and hands are positioned, not to mention the crimped blonde hair:
http://allisonsgirls.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/2-fun-dolls.html
Not sure how tall these 2 dolls are....may be bigger than yours. But if they're made by the same companies, that might help us out.
With your photo, does Skatie have a green bow or ribbon in her hair? Her hair looks too good to be a generic brand. I was thinking she might be some untraceable generic $1 store doll, but if her hair was very good quality I suppose that would suggest she may have been Hasbro, Mattel or another big brand name perhaps?
Did she have freckles?
Update: I have just discovered that the 'Skatey Doll' I suggested in an earlier post is a knock-off of 'Radical Rollin' Rachel', a doll by Hasbro, circa 2003. Maybe yours is a generic brand after all....I'm still looking! :)

This doll is proving to be such a mystery! ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
-
It is super frustrating! I search for this doll at least once every day in my free time and still cannot come up with anything new. I am thinking we will just have to sit back and wait for the answer to appear on its own. Sometimes my best finds have been stumbled upon by accident, while looking for something else, and that's always pretty cool!

One of the Candee dolls by Totsy (circa 1995ish?)
(http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Totsy-1995-Dealers-Catalog-Photo-Book-Sandy-Lacey-Candee-Flair-Greg-Doll-RARE-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMTk1/$(KGrHqRHJCYE9sj9sV2BBPf7d-hRqg~~60_57.JPG)
-
Nope.
She's kind of similar though.
I got Skatie/Skaty in around 1991.
-
Skyhorse - nope she didn't have freckles - she had dimples though :-)
And I put that ribbon in her hair, she didn't come wearing it.
-
Oh well....gotta say those Candee dolls are awesome, love the 90's look!
-
Wow!
SSSSSSSSSkatie/SSSSSSSSSkaty must be one of the hardest dolls EVER to ID!!!!!!!
:(
-
This probably isn't it, but I went on a bit of a search for anything similar, and I found this:
-
Nope, that's not her.
Sssssskatie/Ssssssskaty was more of a skateboard doll. She has on 'board' shorts, white trainers (sneakers) ETC.
-
May she have been a Peggy doll?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Jeans-Peggy-Doll-By-Lundby-Petra-New-In-Box-Great-Find-/320955333701?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aba6dbc45
-
No :(
I actually had a dream about her last night! I want her back!
She was just called SSSSSSSSSSSSkaty or SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSkatie, bought in Woolworths, UK in around 1990. Dressed in skateboarding clothes, with long, crimped blonde hair and dimpled cheeks.
She is shorter than Skipper but chubbier. Her hands and feet are much bigger than Skipper's and she had a bit of a tummy on her!
-
It's a long shot, but is she Baby Skates?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP8X_CU5tks
-
Not Baby Skates; her doll was smaller than Barbie. ;)
-
I searched for hours online last night and came up with nothing!
I sooooo regret parting with this doll. What a mystery it's turning out to be!
I can't believe that we haven't managed to ID her with a photo, description and a name!!!!!
I haven't given up hope, one day I'll find her....... ::)
-
I still think she's a Katie doll by Kid Kore.
I had one growing up, and was able to recognize a another one from just her hair while standing twenty feet away. Even from the blurred photos, this still looks like your doll!
They came in at least 24 different outfits. I've yet to find one in the same outfit as the one I had growing up OR the one I found at the flea market.
Her body and arms are made of a hard plastic, her head is vinyl, and her legs are a rubbery plastic and bend.
Look at the shoes on this one:
And here's a "Katie" with a different face:
Alternatively, could she be one of these? They seem a bit small, though.
EDIT: OH! Unless she's the same type of knock-off dolls that I got in a set when I was very small... I always called them "Barbies", but they weren't. Mine all came in Halloween costumes and were packaged with alternate outfits, including a record player. I only have two of the six left, but I would have gotten them around 1994, and I know they made them for quite a while afterwards as I saw them in Ben Franklin for years after getting them. They are quite chubby and the blondes came with crimped hair!
-
Nope - she looked nothing like either of them!
Her name was SSSSSSSSSskatie or SSSSSSSSSSSSSSkaty. (with a SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!)
-
This may have already been suggested, not sure where we are up to with this one as I haven't backtracked for awhile, but could she have been a Cititoy-brand doll like these, or similar:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251114334052
(the doll in the middle)
or...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Doll-1988-Cititoy-Blonde-Hair-Doll-Jointed-8-/390290365479
or...
http://ghostofthedoll.co.uk/Forum/index.php?topic=2705.0
-
YES!!!!!
She looks just like these Cititoy dolls!!! Wow, thanks!
So she was a Cititoy skating doll!!!!
-
I'm sooo delighted that you found out the brand! Thank you again!
Right, so my one had long crimped blonde hair, neon bermuda shorts, a white t-shirt with some of the fabric from the shorts stitched on, and white trainers/sneakers.
Lets find her!!!!
-
Wow, haha, that's cool :) Progress! It's funny cos I randomly look up Cititoy dolls now and then, and when I saw some of them on eBay last night, I immediately thought 'hmm...let me see that blurry photo of the supposed sssssskatie doll again...' and yeah, it looked similar, especially the bent arm and the fringe. Of course, credit goes to Zuse who actually had the last picture of the Cititoy 'L.A. Looks' dolls up in another post (the same dolls in that photo can also be found on eBay still, too, even though Zuse wrote the post like a year a go I think). In other searches, it seems Cititoy used this doll mold a fair bit, under different names, so it might still be tricky to locate the actual ssssssKatie...
Just to clarify, the outfit isn't anything like this is it:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Cherie-All-Vinyl-Poseable-Doll-8-New-in-Box-by-Cititoy-/151002313863?pt=US_Dolls_Bears_Toys&hash=item2328707487
..as I'm trying to find out if Cititoy ever swapped or interchanged outfits for their doll lines at different times.
-
Ok, I am doing cartwheels right now. Check this doll out, not the right clothes yet, but you'll get my drift:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-CITI-TOYS-DOLL-1988-/330871517036?nma=true&si=psjW7OEehDO8mz%252FHjHqyfLdsIj4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
We have a year! A brand! Blonde! Crimped hair! Neon clothes that are similar top and bottom! Skatie must be part of THIS particular line of dolls (similar to the 2nd doll in the pink neon dress in my previous post, but with curly hair instead). You should probably put a bid on this crimped-hair doll on eBay or contact the seller, RIGHT NOW. Haha.
Is it too early for all of us here at GOTD to do a Harlem Shake right now? Cos I'm feelin' it!
-
WOW!!! Yes - this is exactly like her!!!!
Amazing!!!!! The neon clothes too.... wow! They must have made a batch of these dolls, dressed them in neon clothes and named them different things.
And no - 'Skatie's' outfit wasn't like the one the doll in the other picture is wearing.
I can't believe you've pretty much found her after all this time!!!!!!
-
I can't believe that this doll was on Ebay UK!!!! The auction ended with no bids, so I've messaged the seller to see if she still has her.
Fingers crossed!!!!

Could she have been an L.A. Looks doll?
I'm thrilled that we're getting close to solving this mystery!
-
YES!!! She is definitely one of these exact dolls, but wearing a different 'skate boarding' outfit and in a box marked 'SSSSSSSSSSSSkaty'. Soooo pleased to have an ID, but that Ebay UK seller never got back to me :-(
-
Here is another one for sale! Mint in box too. May not be the exact clothes as yours, but same doll.

TOTALLY RADICAL OUTFIT DUDETTE
Ahem. Sorry. The 90s came flooding back... ;)
