Or is this something else that is pretty well-known?

Oh, another thread I meant to start! :) No, these aren't a fakie, they're by Applause! :) Well, I mean, I guess they could be inspired by them (which came first?). But Applause is a pretty major plush toy brand.

Then again, mine was dated 1985 and the Mattel were released before then. I guess it just depends on when the first Boo Boo Bunch were released... You can identify them by the brand  on the tush tag (Applause/Russ Berrie), the tear drop painted onto the eye, and the bandage around some part of their body with the Boo-Boo logo on it.

Here's a bit of info about them: http://plushsearch.dirtybutter.com/2008/09/searching-80s-small-booboo-penguin-with.html

Here's a 1984 figure from the Boo Boo Bunch series ("Dial Me A Smile")

Here's pics of the one that I sold on eBay. He was a small plush.

Here's a pic of another Teddy from the Boo-Boo Bunch that is on eBay. There's a third version of a bear on eBay as well, but it's missing its bandage.

Nah, I don't think it was a huge line. Just something kind of produced over a few years as sort of a "Get Well" present (probably at Hospital gift shops, etc.) I think it's more something people would have just a sentimental attachment to just one they loved, not the whole line. (Like, you might see it on http://plushmemories.com/ I remember that some wife was searching for the penguin for her husband).
