Share your cool crafts!
« on: Tuesday 22 February 2011, 05:37 am »
I thought I would start a post about crafts. Ever since I have become a big sister with the Big Brother Big Sisters program, my little sister and I have been doing loads of different really neat crafts. Here are just a few and some pictures. Do you have any cool craft ideas to share?

Perler Beads
I once stubbled upon Nintendo related perler bead art online and I thought it was absolutely awesome! So I made my own. Here are a few, I have made many more but have given several away since people tend to like them as well. I like putting magnets on the back and hanging them on my fridge.

Sticky Mosiacs
These are really neat especially if you get sets with lots of glittery and jewel pieces. This box is my favorite. I love the peace sign on top. The others are cards. They are all full of glittery pieces and jewel pieces but it may be hard to see in the pics. My favorite is the rainbow card.

Bendaroos
These are fun to make but can be a challenge. I originally thought I could glue magnets to the back and display them on my fridge. But I can't since these creations fall apart. I won't buy these again since they are destined to end up in pieces under the couch or stuck to the carpet. Lol.

Magic Fabric
I have no pictures of the ones I have made unfortunately. When I first saw these on TV I thought they looked really cool so I was excited to try it out. I didn't really like them due to several reasons. 1. It's difficult for kids to peal the fabric pieces off the paper and they often get ripped. 2. The creations never get layered properly and you can see white sides. 3. No idea what to with them after, like the Benderoos they end up being just trampled on around the house or in a drawer until I throw them in the garbage. 4. Refills are expensive! A refill to make just 3 more little creations costs $10 and they are soooo not worth it. It's $10 for like 20 minutes of craft activity and creations that have no purpose. Lol. Since the creations are so cute though, kids like to make them.

Record Bowls
I Love these. They are so retro and neat show pieces. just an old record that you heat up in your oven just enough to be able to bend it into the shape of a cool bowl. Now, you can't eat out of it (there is a hole in the middle of course) due to the chemicals in the record, but it's a fun item to display. This is not the record bowl I made, it's a picture I found on the net. I have also been planning to make those cool Lite Brite jewellery but I need a very tiny drill bit got the Lite Brite pieces. :)
Here are instructions: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Bowls-out-of-Vinyl-Records
You can also find videos on Youtube.

Knot A Quilt
I haven't made this yet. I saw it and thought it was such a cool idea. I thought I would get my own fabric though and get the correct dimensions instead of buying the craft set. There are several other sets such as Knot A Scarf, Knot A Hat, and Knot a Bag.

I thought they looked so cool on the advert but I wasn't really impressed. I gave them to my niece and nephew

Very cool stuff!

I have Fabric Magic and even though I'm certainly not a kid, i have a terrible time getting it to line up too! lol I use the finished ones as toys/pillows for my ball joint dolls.

I keep a craft blog here:

I think some of my stuff might appeal to you guys :)
