Do You recognize this donkey?
« on: Monday 06 March 2017, 12:04 am »
New member trying to ID a childhood toy.

It belonged to my older brother who handed down to me in 1970.  No one in the family remembers where he came from.   I can find no images that resemble him on the net and none of my on-line associates recognize him.

He stands about 18 inches tall. (45cm)
Grey head and body, with red shorts.
His muzzle was pink.
Ears were lined with red satin
He has painted plastic eyes, blue.
His mouth was glued on.
There is a small black spot on his back (not a stain) that feels like it might be felt could have been a tag or a hang strip
Black tip on his tail.
Stuffing is cotton and maybe paper pellets.
No visible tag.

Front view.  5" Slimline CD case provided for scale.

This is a long shot but I have some Humpty Dumpty soft toys from when I was born in 1981 that have similar eyes as your donkey, although they have been turned around. Here is a link to mine:

wingsinmoonlight:

The going theory in the family is that he is Pinocchio as a donkey from the book or one of the boys from Pleasure Island.  We do know that he is not from the Disney version.  (The timing is wrong.  We think he came out around 1966, which was well after the first release and before the 1970's release)

Thanks for looking.   :)

"Eeyore" (the family name for him) is 15 years older, but the style in the eyes is similar, do you remember the manufacturer of your Humpty?

Certainly looks like Pinocchio as a donkey to me, not just the pants but the blue eyes looking kind of naive. Here's a look at a Jiminy Cricket, supposedly from the 50s. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1950-s-Plush-12-JIMINY-CRICKET-Posable-Plush-Stuffed-Disney-Pinocchio-T-/272584956766?hash=item3f77545b5e:g:XZ4AAOSwTM5YwxU6
