Pillow People - P.S.E. Marketing, Inc. (1985)
« on: Thursday 13 May 2010, 05:28 am »
I don't know much about these! I just bought one of the smaller ones the other day at a thrift store and decided to research. So, here's some *basic* info about them. Hopefully someone who knows a lot more can make all the corrections and add extra information!

So, these were started in 1985 by the Springs Industries Products Performance Division as toys that could double as "bedtime companions." There was the large versions of the characters and then the smaller "Collectible" plush. I think they're actually going to redo the series? http://thepillowpeople.com/

The original 6 characters were:
Sweet Dreams (this is actually a picture of the smaller-sized plush)

Rock-A-Bye Baby

Punky Pillow

Mr. Sandman

Big Footsteps

I guess others were added on?

Unknown Names (for me, at least!)

And Halloween Costumes?!?

The bear one is called Hugga Bear. They also made clothes. I use to have a nightgown with Mr. Sandman on it.

It's funny that you posted that Halloween costume. Somebody on another forum I went to wanted to know about costumes like that. They don't look real safe.

Yep, like pikapal said, the bear's name is Hugga Bear...it's part of the Pillow People Pets line.  Other Pillow People Pets are the orange kitty ("Little Sleeper"), a dog ("Drowsy Dog"), a lamb ("Little Bo Sleep"), and a dino (I believe it's called "Dino Snores").  If you search on YouTube there's a commercial for them if anyone's curious what they look like.

The yellow bunny's name is Rip Van Rabbit, the Pillow People University boy with glasses is Joe College (and I think the university girl *might* be named Jill College?, but not 100% sure on that), and the door is Squeaky Door.  Off the top of my head, I know there's also a window named Window Rattler and a cloud called Thunderclap.  I sold a bunch of these some time ago, so I'll go through my old auction photos when I get a chance to see if I have any photos to add.

Yeah--it looked like a Window.

They re-released some of the Pillow People in the late 90s.  I got the Sweet Dreams repo.

I love the Halloween costume! It reminds me of the Nativity play they did every year at my elementary alma matter St. Monica's. All the girls wore white trash bags and were angels and the boys wore brown trashbags (dating myself there) and were shepards.

I know my childhood best friend had a window girl with blonde hair. I always found it sort of creepy as a kid, and to be honest I think they're a little creepy now, lol. And I don't know why, but I think DJ Tanner on Full House had either a window or a girl with blonde hair.

Ahh, I love pillow people.  I only really remember the first series though- all these later ones are news to me.  They got pretty creative, didn't they?

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the thread on Plumppets, or if I should give it it's own thread, but I checked through my old ebay photos of the Pillow People I sold, and while I didn't find any photos of actual Pillow People to add, I did find another 'knock-off' type pillow toy, a "Personality Plush" purple kitty pillow.

"Personality Plush" kitty:
