He's a toughie :(  His brand doesn't seem incredibly well known, so that could be a factor right there.  I'm keeping my eye out for you though!

He reminds me of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh

It looks like a knock off Eeyore.

It is not a knock off Eeyore. It may be a donkey/horse, but that's where the similarities end.

He was released in more than one colour and was the box had very distinctive packaging, I can almost see the name on the box, but it escapes me now. I am sure they also released other animals, too.

Trademarkia shows that Play Group Inc was registered as a trademark in 1985 and kept until 1993 when they filed for bankruptcy. No sub-trademarks can be found under this (I was hoping they trademarked a toy line, but no such luck). Any combination of "play group" "play group inc" "plush" "toy" "stuffed" "1985" only brings up two other results.. a reversible plush currently on ebay and another that was taken down and is no longer for sale. Neither seller/auction knows what the toy is, but it looks like it was used to tell a story. There is a zipper somewhere on the animal/character, and when you unzip it you see the outside of another character inside. They flip almost like a popple, except it's completely inside out so that the first character goes inside the pouch and the second is completely on the outside. Its strange.

Does your donkey have a zipper?
Always looking for my little ponies!

I know him! I remember selling a similar elephant toy on ebay a ways back.  I dug up the photo and sure enough there is a piccie of this guy on the box.  They were called The Krumples Family by the looks:

OMG thank you FOREVER!!!

Surprised at how well I remember the box as it's a good 22 years since I've seen it. It even shows the teal and white one that I remembered!

I wish I had seen that auction at the time - I would really love to have another one as my guy is a little lonely on his own!

Thanks again for posting this you have just satisfied my mind entirely  ;D

99p?! Did it actually sell for that or were there no bids? I looked in the completed items but I can't find it, it must be too long ago. My chances of finding another one bust be so minimal because aside from the manufacturer's label there's obviously no ID (as this thread proves!) so I am lost as to what to search for!

zuse: I was really thinking he would be anonymous for eternity! It's funny how many toys were actually high quality merchandise, well manufactured and packaged and given an international release but have somehow been completely lost over time.
