The seller doesn't know the origin of this Treat Heart...says she/he got it from a Ebay UK auction...

Which of course can mean everything and nothing. The seller could have bought it for a lot of money, believing it to be the real thing, or they could have bought it for cheap in a lot, hoping to make a quick buck (or, in this case, rather a lot of quick bucks). Or they could have made it themselves. Unfortunately, there's no way of finding out, really.

Here's a new one

 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TREAT-HEART-PIG-Care-Bear-Cousin-RARE-20th-Ann-NWT-/150516247298?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230b77ab02

I know it's not vintage but it might be good to make a collection more complete and I'm sure you could get it cheaper than this x

Years ago a reputable Kenner Prototype dealer offered me a set of Care Bear poseables that had been painted to look like Environmental Care Bears. I was hesitant to buy them because any great artist could have done them, and how was I to know if they were real? I didn't trust the fact that they came from a reputable dealer. I know that sounds bad, but I didn't. Then she provided me with about 40 pages of Kenner internal paperwork to go along with them. Then and only then did I buy them. I knew that the paperwork wasn't fake, neither was the cost projection analysis, receipts and other documents. So I guess in a case like this pig here, if there is even the slightest suspicion one should save their money for the one with the paperwork.

Plus, in this recession, is anyone spending this kind of money? I know that 11K pony sold last month but I am seeing less and less of these crazy prices these days.

Did the 11k pony sell? I thought the auction just ended. I didn't see anywhere on the page that it was bought or bid on?

And Angelbear is right about the paperwork. Even if you believe something is real and buy it, if you ever try to sell it without documentation you're going to get called out.

Hi, I'm a noob here and I don't mean to Resurrect a dead thread but I kinda have an update.

Two friends of mine went garage saleing last weekend and hit something amazing, a whole box of unplayed with Care Bears! They talked to the guy selling them and he had told them that he worked in the art department of Kenner in Cinci way back in the early 80's and had kept a lot of things he worked on but they were now moving and he needed it gone.

I am tasked with identifying and listing these, and though I've posted elsewhere and talked on some forums already I thought you guys would enjoy some pics (as I saw the complaints about the shear lack of pictures  ;D)

I'm just posting the links so I don't clog the forum with pics. Also, I plan on listing them tonight if I can.

Treat heart: http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm123/duskkodeshdragmire/sweettreatpig.jpg

and this odd harmony bear: http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm123/duskkodeshdragmire/Unknownbear.jpg

There were others in the box but not as cool, still some are prototypes so If you glance around my photobucket album you can see the pics of them :)

HE SOLD THIS AT A GARAGE SALE?!?

Apparently none of his buddies told him how much this stuff can do at auctions and private sales.

Or do they have to sell this stuff on the D/L so Hasbro doesn't find out? :-P

Hmm... there are people who try to sell old, manky Barbies with missing limbs for $10 each because "Hey, they're old!"... and there's this guy, who's missing the chance to make thousands... *shakes head* I hope he never finds out.

I just don't get it. I assume a well educated guy that apparently helped design a thing doesn't even Google it?

I mean, I know once you reach a certain place in life you're past nickle and diming everything and donate stuff and get rid of your stuff because its just STUFF and who cares about trying to SERIOUSLY sell it (not that garage sales can't be work, but you know what I mean).

But still. Thousands of dollars...

Don't get me wrong! The buyers in this situation deserve everything they bought. I'm just speechless at this guy that both knew what they were and just couldn't be bothered.

But I will say, that my mom is the type that hates any kind of old junk around and would have nagged my dad to get rid of it even if was "one of a kind" stuff like that. People have different views in life. Not saying that collecting toys is 100% normal, but neither is tossing out stuff that someone else might find valuable!!!

This is why I am doing a complete inventory of my stuff. So when I die my family will know what it is worth and my nephew might be able to put himself through college.

XD Wow, wasn't expecting that kind of reaction. Honestly my friends had no idea what they were worth until we got home with them and wondered why some were in plastic. We thought we'd pass them along to younger relatives when the almighty Google stopped us in our tracks.

Care bears aren't really anything I'm knowledgeable about, I'm mostly a Pullip, BJD, Jurassic Park collector, and the other friends have a few toys but are not really collectors of anything. So it's really REALLY lucky the treat heart wasn't passed along to a toddler. XD It's kinda funny when I think about it.
