This weeks mid-week charity shop perusal found me various TV show DVD’s (True Blood, Battlestar Galactica and Life On Mars), two Ladybird books, the Ready Player One book and a lovely illustrated fairy tales book.
Ladybird Books
Both Ladybird books were ginger related, with Well-Loved Tales “The Gingerbread Boy“, and Read It Yourself “Gingerbread Man“. They date from 1980-81.
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
I enjoyed the film, although it had many flaws, so thought I’d give the book a go. Who ever this used to belong to didn’t keep it long as this version was only published this year.
The Book of Idle Pleasures
This book looked rather fun, so I bought it!
“The Book of Idle Pleasures is a restorative gift book for the stressed out, tired and hassled. An antidote to our non-stop culture, it is a welcome compendium of timeless delights.
The book lists and reflects on 75 simple pastimes and proves that the best things in life really are free: lighting fires, skimming stones, catching falling leaves, whittling, staring out of the window, dreaming, doodling or taking a nap. The Book of Idle Pleasures is a celebration of pleasure for its own sake in a world of consumer overload.”
Classic Fairy Tales by Berlie Doherty & Jane Ray
I love illustrated fairy tale books and have a large collection spanning many years. This book has some wonderful artwork by Jane Ray.
Battlestar Galactica ~ Season 4 & 5
I own series 1-3 but never got around to buying the last two, so this was a good find.
True Blood ~ Season 3
I really enjoyed True Blood, so snapped this up as I only have series 1 so far. Best buy season 2 then!
Life On Mars ~ Season 1
Another TV series I really enjoyed and planned to buy!
Gene Hunt: “They reckon you’ve got concussion – I couldn’t give a tart’s furry cup if half your brains are falling out. Don’t ever waltz into my kingdom acting king of the jungle.”
Sam Tyler: “Who the hell are you?”
Gene Hunt: “Gene Hunt. Your DCI. And it’s 1973. Nearly dinner time. I’m ‘aving ‘oops.”
