“Outstanding!”
These ads for Pall Mall cigarettes date from 1947-49. They were all long, half-page ads with a bright red background and plain white text.
To begin with the only imagery was a cigarette packet (also red), which didn’t really change until mid-1948 when some line illustrations began to appear. The ads then slowly became more varied.
1947
“Pall Mall’s distinguished length is the outward sign of a basic superiority.”
1948
“Pall Mall’s are good to look at – good to feel – good to taste – good to smoke!”
“I’ve discovered the longer, finer cigarette.”
1949
“Pall Mall’s greater length filters the smoke on the way to your throat.”
