The Buddy L Ponies
« on: Sunday 26 September 2010, 07:31 pm »
If anyone has any information on the pony toy lines made by Buddy L, please inform us.  From what I know, very little is out there.  I am interested!

Talk To Me Pony Tales
I found this auction (no photos) on a goodwill auction website: "Up for auction we have a Talk To Me Pony Tales pony made by Buddy L that is new and in the original sealed package."

Magic Unicorn
According to LegalMetric, there was a 1991 case named "Hasbro, Inc. v. Buddy L.Corporation" on basis of 17:501 Copyright Infringement.  There is a toy/line called Magic Unicorn mentioned.

Just bumping this since it fell all the way to the second page so quickly.  Hopefully someone else here might be able to provide some info.

It's a shame the picture on the Goodwill auction site doesn't work anymore. I would have loved to see the package! There really isn't much information about Buddy L ponies out there, but I found this thread on the MLP Arena that has several pictures of all different Buddy L's - there's even a baby one!:

Oh, and here's my Buddy L pony with one of her original accessories:

It's a velcro hair ornament. She also had a comb that was very similar to the MLP flower picks (that came with flutter ponies). It was translucent gold/yellow - actually, the same plastic as the yellow star on her forehead. I wish I still had it, but the plastic got very brittle and all the teeth broke off, so it got thrown away years ago. I don't think mine came with any other accessories. Hope that's useful!

I have 2 of these, but I never knew what they were! Haha it's nice to finally be able to put a name to the "face."

Unfortunately I don't remember when or where I got them so  don't really have any extra info I can give to you. But this saves a thread in the TOY ID. :) Haha.

Oh! There's a MOC one on Ebay right now! Look:

(here's the auction link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Talk-Me-Pony-Tales-Vintage-Pony-Figure-MOC-1991-/190451610584#ht_796wt_1131 )

So I guess it did come with more accessories than I remembered. A yellow hair tie and a... uh.. pink/green/blue thing (another hair tie?). Also I'm trying to read the phrases the pony says... I'm pretty sure the top one is "Be my friend," and the bottom one is definitely "Tell me a secret" (I remember that one from childhood), but the middle one? I think it start's with "You're." Hmm... maybe "You're pretty" or something like that?

@MissAliRae
Yeah, I gotta agree with you there.  I think I had two myself.  Thanks for popping in!

@flowersinherhair
That's a great link you found, I can't believe there are babies and so many colors - I love them.  Wow what a great eBay find!!!!  That's super exciting.  I guess now that the name for one of the lines is *confirmed* it will be much easier to search for them MOC on eBay.  :)  Hooray!!

I can't tell what the item is in between the hair band and velcro bow.  I don't think I see the comb either unfortunately but I couldn't be happier!

Yeah, I wish I could tell what that mystery accessory is... The colors are bringing back vague memories, but I just can't remember what it is! The comb is in there, it's right behind the velcro thing. Since it's translucent yellow, it doesn't stand out too much, but it's there! :)
