Plastic Dog I had as a child
« on: Saturday 08 January 2011, 08:55 am »
Hello everyone!  :D

I've been trying to find pictures of some toys I had as a child that were lost over the years. One of these toys was a plastic Yorkshire Terrier/Shih tzu/Maltese (or similar looking to those breeds) bought from a random drug store. It came with a little food bowl, one side had food in it and the other side had nothing. When you pressed the left food side the food would 'disappear' (switch to be hidden underneath the right side of the bowl)

There were other dogs in this collection as well. I had this toy sometime in the 90's and I cant find pictures of it anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hmm, vintage Littlest Pet shop had some similar dog bowl mechanisms where the food disappeared.  Have you looked into those?

I had the Bobcat set and the German Shepard set from the old littlest pet shop but the bowls didn't have that mechanism. Which sets had the bowl like that ??? Ive been looking at a lot of the sets and they usually have the same bowls. Although the bowl that this dog had was exactly the same shape. The dog was larger and was more realistic looking from what I can remember.

EDIT:

This style does seem very familiar though.

What year might it be?

Chances of OP seeing this a full decade later seems small, but I would bet this is the maltese dog from a Show Champions set (made by Empire). I have the german shepherd/maltese set and that food bowl disappearing trick was what the maltese came with. I just laid hands on the packaging for them in my parents' basement! The boxes looked like a stage. I think this is the same company who made Grand Champions horses.
