Unknown 2001 Popple
« on: Tuesday 11 January 2011, 03:13 pm »
I am a Popple Collector from Belgium and I have gathered a really nice collection if I may say so myself.
I can name every Popple I have by it's name. But still; I have one Popple that I have never seen before anywhere else.
A while back I bought quite a big Popple lot on Ebay. After buying I counted all the Popples in the picture just to be sure.
As I opened the box and took them all out one after another, as I counted, I noticed there we're about 3 more in there that we're not in the picture. One of these 3 was a 2001 Popple I had never seen before. I have been looking everywhere for her but I just can't find her anywhere. I have had contact with a woman who owns a Popple site and is one of the biggest Popple Collector's in the world. But even she told me that she had never before seen this Popple.

- The Popple is not fake because her tag does say she is from Characters from Cleveland and Toymax.
- She is not made the same as the other Popple's though. Her eyes are not of plastic, but are soft.
- She is a girl because the general rule of Popples is that the guys have hard plastic noses while the girls have soft noses, and she has a soft nose.
- She has hair around her neck and paws.
- She can transform into a bag which you can hold.
- She wears a bow.
- She has the Popple logo which is another evidence that she is not fake.

I hope anyone can help me on this one.

Is it supposed to be an updated version of Party Popple?

I don't think so because Party's colour is lighter.

I wish I could help. Definetly an interesting question. I would suggest contacting the manufacturer of Popples in that year.

I was thinking about that myself too, because no one can seem to help me.
But I don't really know where I can contact them?

Yes, it is.  :)

I think the only solution would be like EdenEye says.

This to me almost looks like one of those plushies that you would win in those big claw machine games? Or maybe a prize at a carnival or amusement park. It looks like it's made pretty cheap. Did they ever have Popples as prizes like that?

"Like" my store on Facebook to see when

Do you still have the ebay seller's info?  Maybe you could ask where she got it?

I don't think she's a fake at all because she has the Popple Logo and her tag does reads she is from Characters from Cleveland and Toymax.
I have seen some Popples prizes that were given out on amusement parks etc.
But they looked alot different. My Popple looks a bit like the Cutie-Fruity Popples from 2001;

The seller was french, and I don't know a word french to start with, lol :-)
I don't even know if I still have her, I'll take a look ASAP.

I just took a look at the Popple's tag and it does is english.
French Popples also have French tags as far as I know that is.  :)

I hate to say it but I think she is a fake...here are the reasons:

1: She looks to be made of a felt material
2. The Popple Logo doesn't match the 2001 logo on the other Toymax Popples, or other ones that I can find.
3. ToyMax only produced a few Popples (celebrity Popples, etc) and there names were sewn onto the bottom of their foot
4:2007 Playmates started making them.

Unless she is a prototype of a ToyMax Popple that was never sold I really believe she is a fakie. You can get tags off any other Popple and sew them on a homemade item, and like I said the Logo that you took the picture of doesn't match the 2001 logos.

Here is a listing of a 2001 Pixie Doodle off ebay that shows the 2001 logo:

She looks like she came from a claw machine.  I have a LPS mouse made with the same looking material.  I know NANCO was popular for the name brand claw machine stuffies.  I don't really know if that helps but i guess it could be worth a look.
