I found this little doll hiding in a drawer. She is approximately 5 inches tall and marked (c) Remco 1982 Hong Kong.

We've discussed this one a bit before, I think.

It has the same body (SSC clone) as my 1989 Remco doll. Mine has the larger head with the disappearing cutie mark on her cheek.

We did see this one on eBay but it was nude. It least now we know there seems to be a cultural theme?

But, we still have no idea who she is? *sigh* I did think she looked SSC-ish when I first saw her. Is she worth anything?  ???

Maybe they were supposed to be different nationalities or something?

I meant to post this way before now but the first doll is "German" related due to her wearing lederhosen...maybe they have different dolls for each country.

"Around the World in 80 Dolls" by Mel Appel/Remco (1982).

Looks like another relative of the Crayon and Jellybean Dolls (although those were made by Lanard).

This one is the American Indian doll, I believe.

Also mentioned in this thread from 2005: http://s7.invisionfree.com/80s_Toyland/index.php?showtopic=294
Hmm... it's RollChan1985 that was asking about them. I think I have her on my Flickr friends!

WHOA! Zuse does it again! And here I thought I'd have to call these "Derp dolls" because of their walleyed expressions for the rest of my life, lol!

What a cute concept, though! I'd say they're probably more related to the "Friends around the world" sets from Strawberry Shortcake than the Jellybean dolls, though.

As a knock-off, I agree.

But it's the brand I meant. Mel Appel is the branding on both the Lanard Crayon Dolls and these Remco dolls.
