Wanted Vintage Moon Glow doll
« on: Friday 25 February 2011, 10:32 pm »
I was looking for the 1983 vintage rainbow brite doll moon glow. I have looked everywhere. I figured I would try and post what I was looking for and see what comes up. If any body has one or knows where I can find one for sale please let me know asap. I am a serious buyer! Thanks

Is she the one that was only released in Germany? That is definitely a difficult search so I wish you luck. I have never even seen her for sale.

I created & designed Moonglow. I do have my original prototype, but unfortunately, I am not willing to part with her. But you might be interested to know that she originally had white yarn hair! I went on vacation, and when I got back, I was informed that the director had requested the change to peach hair. At first I was a bit chagrinned, but she grew on me, and I really like the look.

By the way, she was 1986, not 1983.

Wow Stefanie, that is amazing!  Thank you so much for posting.

I have to agree with you, you definitely should never give up your very own prototype.  :)  She is a lovely, lovely doll.  Would you be willing to grace us with pictures sometime??

I've only ever seen one pic but I think they did make her but she didn't have a whole lot of distrubution (due to the lack of interst in the line at the time) but just like Moonglow she was only in germany.

Honestly, I'm not sure on this. I left Mattel in early '86 to go to Hasbro, so I wasn't around when the dolls were actually being produced. I never saw one in the store, I had managed to keep my original prototype, and I have one of those package inserts that everyone seems to have, showing the new dolls. I do know that there are some Moon Glows out there, but I've never seen Stormy in real life.

She's packed away in my garage... as soon as I find her, I'll take a photo & put it up here. Thanks for asking!

A custom maker named Jazzy creations can make you one for about $80 and they look good.  For a real one Search Ebay Germany and lookup Regina Regenbogen (Rainbow Brite) and Sandra Silbermond (moonglow) They are still quite expensive and shipping is very high.

Thanks for the information- do a lot of people get customs dolls made that mimic the "real" thing?  I had never heard of this until recently.
