Male Rock Star Doll [Sep 2008]
« on: Sunday 07 March 2010, 06:02 pm »
Bronwen emailed me this doll description:

"I've been searching for a male doll that I used to have when I was little. He was a slightly bigger build than my other dolls (barbie etc.) and quite sturdy, very glam rock almost like david bowie in labyrinth. Long whitey-pinkish glam hair and I think maybe light pink eye make-up.
His face was very well made, had an unusual look about him sort of a matte texture, his main body was very pale almost shiny plastic and he had all these opposable joints. I think he could hold a mic too but my memory's a bit fuzzy. I was born in 1985 and I must have been 4 or 5 when I got him (1989-90). I think he was a birthday present or something.
A friend suggested he might have been one of the Jem dolls but he looked nothing like them. I think he was wearing a white shiny catsuit or something but I mostly remember him naked (heh). Anyway, it's really starting to bother me, because that doll was something else!"
Thanks,Bronwen.

I've tried to brainstorm and think who other than Hasbro had dolls with a larger build. Mego went out of business in 1982, so it's not them.

The Maxie doll line is also produced by Hasbro, but only the first year had a male doll with real hair and he definitely isn't rocker. :(

This is driving me nuts! I wonder who your doll was?

Maybe it was a Super Stars Doll?

None of these are really jointed, though. :(

This has been driving me nuts too. The only thing I found that was promising was all the cheap dolls made when Jem was discontinued that were made of old Jem parts (like those Super Stars). But I don't know, a doll like that would still look like Jem and the poster said her doll wasn't anything like them.
Wish List!
-Any Merwees (CAP Toys)
-Lady Lovely Locks Seek & Peek board game
-Used/nude Fashionista Ken

I know it's been a long time since the last post...
Was wondering if it could have been a Boy George doll.
He has long hair and purple eyeshadow.
