Secret Keepins by Kenner, 1984
« on: Sunday 14 March 2010, 06:17 pm »
Secret Keepins were produced by Kenner in 1994. They were a series of plush animals with a large plastic jewel-like disk on their tummies which hid a secret compartment inside, opened by a key.

There is no information on these toys on the internet, so if you know anything more about them then please contact me!

I have found three puppies so far, and have a small page already for them but would like to expand it if possible. Were there other animals produced?

If it's any help, I have found at thrift stores the exact three you have.  So far, no others.  I will definitely keep my eye out though!

My sister has/had one of these. I don't remember it as being a puppy. I'll ask her if she still has it in the morning and post pictures if it is different.

I do not know if more colors were manufactured.  But I can tell you that I own the purple one.

- They used to come with jewels inside of the compartment.
- You get a light pink heart with an extension that makes it become a "key" to open the compartment.
- I believe the shape around the keyhole determines the bracelet(?) you get.  Mine is a dark blue heart with a plastic lace-like border, and it has white elastic attached.

If you have any more questions I'll do my best to help.  :)

This was an image I saved off of eBay (preview of a few pages of a toy catalog).

Anyways, I was mainly interested in the BSC dolls... but you can see a few of the Secret Keepins on the opposite page. It looks like the main 3 dogs we know about... but there seems to be at least two more lower down... a cat and a bear. I wonder if there was a 3rd one farther to the right...? Anyone have the (1994?) Kenner catalog?

Then again, that's the Kenner catalog. Could have just been prototypes. I'll believe the non-dog ones exist if I see it on eBay.

I've since emailed Zuse personally about this but since this thread is still going, here's my Kenner 1995 Girls catalogue photo link:

I'm interested in the catalogue for the photos of the prototype littlest pet shop ponies 'sparkling fashion ponies'. Never seen them before so I'm glad I had a squiz at your album!
