Hi. For Christmas one year between 1993-1995 I received a magic nursery doll with the little bonnet and heart on the cheek. It had the soft body with the little gender neutral fuzzy jumper (yellow and purple) BUT, it came inside a little backpack type pouch with a heart on the outside. When you pushed it, it made a little tick tock type sound and part of the backpack kicked in and out, it was supposed to be like the baby was kicking from inside. (i guess the backpack was supposed to be akin to a pregnant belly??) The little carrier backpack could also be transformed into a little rocking bassinet/carrier I'm pretty sure. Does anyone know what this type of magic nursery baby was called? I can't find anything remotely like it anywhere online.

The Magic Nursery Doll your talking about was Baby Surprise.
I have seen them occasionally on ebay over the years.

Here is the doll you are talking about but I had this one as well and although the doll description seems correct this one is not shown with a back pack and mine did not come with 1 either.  Could they be 2 different toys?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_J11Pzrxr8

ecpblue, the Magic Nursery Doll with the gown that you put into water, like the add you linked to is the original Magic Nursery dolls from 1989. I had these as a child. The doll that nmahas is talking about is a Magic Nursery doll Baby Surprise, that I believe was released in the early 90s, a later version of the originals. There were a number of different types of Magic Nursery Dolls.

Wait, was this the doll where the pouch/backpack was made to look like dress fabric. So when you wore it on the front you could pretend to be pregnant? And then when you opened it and the baby was born, you could wear it backwards or forwards as a baby carrier?

All I remember is the commercials for these. I never got one or knew the name, but it made an impression!

Very cool! I've sort of started collecting Magic Nursery dolls for my daughter, but had never heard of these! :D (Apparently I may have one of the dolls, but not backpack.)

I got the triplets for my birthday in 1994. The "laughing" and "crying" sounds were very strange and sounded more like farm animal noises than babies  :P

I have the triplets :D

I still had the pack that they came in from my childhood, but some batteries had corroded inside of it and I didn't know at that point that it was possibly fixable so I threw the electrical part of it away but kept the pack. Then I found the triplets (in amazing shape, and with their original clothes) on ebay for an awesome price before Christmas. I only wish me daughter were as into them as I was. Ha! They're sitting on a shelf in her room for now. :P
