My Little Pony variation question
« on: Sunday 29 January 2012, 08:22 am »
So I live not far from where Hasbro's located, and because of this, when I was little, I got to go to their warehouse and get tons of toys for discounted prices.

One of the toys I kept is a My Little Pony. I've identified her to a point. She's a year 3 Earth Pony, and has the same markings and coloring as Tootsie, BUT her hair is bright red. Has anyone else seen this before?

Hi :)

I'm a MLP collector and I'd love to see a pic of your pony!
There are lots of pony varients from all over the world.
What is written on your pony's feet? If she is made in China or Hong Kong, she might be a factory error or a prototype. If she is made in somewhere like Argentina Italy or India it won't be so unusual for her to have a different hair colour.
Sounds like you have a rare and valuable pony :)

The one problem with ponies like these it that there are so many people out there that custom paint and reroot hair on older ponies, it can sometimes be hard to tell what was legitimately a factory error, prototype, or a more modern creation. :-\ (Although I personally would tend to believe your story about acquiring it from Hasbro).

Often it's possible to tell a reroot job because too much hair is used, especially in the tail.

is this colour similar to your pony's hair?

It's a Lickety Split pony from Argentina in Tootsie's pose.

I'm going to preface this by the best thing about this pony is that when I was little, I didn't like her. She was one of my least favorites, and therefore, not played with as much. Unlike my Baby Moondancer and the handful of babies with the sleepy blinky rusty eyes from many bubble baths.

In answer to your question, it is not a re-root job, or a custom pony. I got her when I was 6 or 7, and I don't ever remember not having her. (Though honestly I wish I knew how to reroot or customize ponies, some of theme come out so awesome I'm stunned).

On the bottom of her foot it does say Hong Kong.

Awww! She's beautiful!
I'm guessing she was accidently given the wrong hair colour :)
