Barbie-sized Dress - Late 80s Early 90s
« on: Saturday 25 February 2012, 02:17 pm »
The dress came above the knees on Barbie. The bottom (skirt-part) was a shimmery magenta color. The top (shirt-part) was mostly blue with purples, golds, silvers, etc. intertwined in the weaves. It was sleeveless. It tied in the back behind the neck. Any ideas? :)

Just to get an idea, does it look anything like this:

(I have just discovered this dress is pretty recent, but it may be a similar style? Though yours sounds like a halter neck...)

This Flickr site has TONNES of photos dedicated to Barbie Fashion that I am just browsing through if you, or anyone else, wants to check it out too :)

Yeah, the extra colors run through the top kind of like that, but there were a lot more colors running through, and I believe that they ran vertically. :)

Is this a bit closer? :) Hasn't got much gold weaved through it though and probably looks a bit too modern this style, not sure...and the skirt looks a bit too purple, not really magenta I guess...

This dress was much darker than that. And that one looks kind of glittery? This one was more of a shimmer than a glitter. :P

Could this be it??

I get the impression this eBay seller makes their own homemade barbie clothes though to sell. But if this matches your dress, we'll know its authentic.

I had another dress in mind as well similar to your description, that I recall my friend having for her Barbie, but cannot find a pic of it anywhere yet.

No, that one's not it. ;)

The blue part came down a lot lower than that one on ebay, like down to the waist rather than just under the bosom. :P

I got a Barbie outfit in a lot that is the same color and material/sheen of the "skirt" part of the dress. I will post pictures soon. :D

Thanks, Skyhorse.

This dress is very near to the one I remember. There were many more colors woven into the top piece, and the bottom was magenta and a bit longer, but the materials on this look correct and everything! :D

I know it's probably not right but it almost sounds like something from the Jewel Secrets Barbie line.

Thank you for the suggestion, FairyDust! I ebayed those fashions, but it doesn't seem to be that style. The dress that I'm looking for was rather skimpy, not nice and full like the jewel line. :)

The doll in the polka dot stretch pants is Cool Times Barbie from 1989.  She is wearing her original pants, jacket and earrings.  Did you have a Cool Times Barbie or friend?  There was also a separate line of Cool Times outfits.

This doll is too recent, but did the fabric look like this?
