[ID: Catz] catz plush toy
« on: Saturday 10 April 2010, 11:17 pm »
I have this plush catz toy and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. I know its based on the PC game Catz by pf magic.
the tag says 1996 pf magic and trendmasters. I just want to know how it works because Ive put new batteries in it and I assume its meant to make noises but Im not sure how to get it to do anything. Also Id like to know how many were made and what accessories they came with.
any info would be appreciated, thankyou

Apparently, they came with accessories that they would interact with via sensors in their mouths. Here is a video of the dog version:

I don't know what it came with but judging by the dog accessories, probably things like a food bowl, fish skeleton, cat toy, things like that? At any rate, I don't think it can do anything without them. :(

My sister and I have one each of the dogz toys - the dogs come with a brush and a food ball. There is a sensor in the back (for the brush) and a sensor on the tongue (for the food bowl) The noises come out of the big part of the collar.

I'm sure I have my dogz adoption certificate somewhere - I can try and dig it up because I'm sure it has a picture of all the dogz you could get and there were the same number of catz produced.

Also I think it was the other way 'round - the plush were produced first and the games were produced based on the plush.

The other thing it does is because you can move it's eyelids up and down you can make it have different expressions.

Everything I've read has said that they came out after the game as well. Apparently Ubisoft is now making the game and has also made a new line of plushes.

Ooooo. I remember Petz. I even still play the original Petz 4. The plushies were definitely made as a tie in to the game. I'd love to see a guide for them since I always wanted to know more about them.

Hey there.  I used to own one of those toys.  They were made to look like the "petz" from the PC games known as Catz and Dogz.  The plushes were made by Trendmasters for at least two years: 1996 and 1997.

The collar acts as a sensor/speaker to the accessory it interacts with.  The cat included the following: mouse, brush, food/water toy.  The mouse (which may have had its own speaker) responded to the paw.  The posable eyelids were meant to make it more virtual-life like.  :)

At the toy's risk you could try putting a weak magnet near the collar.  ^^

wow thankyou everyone for your replies, they were very helpful. I watched the video on youtube of the dog version and I can see how it works now, it probably needs the accessories to get it to work unfortunatly. Ive tried holding a magnet up to it and it doesnt do anything, but metal things stick to its mouth and paws like there are magnets in there.
The mouse sounds cute, Ive played the game and I like the mouse that comes out of the little mousehole and I know the noises it makes. I would have liked to have had that.
I think Id like to collect them, because I as far as I can tell there were only 5 made according to one website. Also I think the toys did come out after the game because on one website it mentions how pf magic were the first company to cross over from pc games to toys or something like that.
thankyou for all your help! I would love to see pictures of the other ones.

i remember it having a purple brush, but the other accessories were "medical" oriented, i thiiink, like maybe a syringe or something like that? not a mouse at least.
