Krista emailed me this kitten toy description and image:

"These kittens are marked Durham Industries/1983 on the bottoms. I know they are probably just some knock off of Poochie/My Little Pony but I'd love to know what they were sold as. I bought mine in Canada. The ponytails are about the size of an MLP tail, to give a sense of scale, the body is vinyl like MLP also."
Thanks! Krista

I'll I've found online about Durham Industries so far is that they got sued in 1979 or 1980 by Tomy for ripping off Tomy toys.

Apparently it was based out of Durham, NC and eventually went out of business (I don't know when).

Could they possibly be called Cute Kitties?

Go to the combs section.

Yes, good find!  I'll try emailing Kim about it... I know I've had a few of those combs too.  Oh, and I should note that I now have a poodle type dog in this series too.

And the gold star goes to pikapal - Kim emailed me back and said that they are indeed Cute Kitties, and the dogs are Pretty Poodles :)  Apparently none of the characters had specific names.

Yes, she and her sister owned the yellow and pink ones.  She said she remembered seeing the other two I have pictures of in stores at the time.  No MIB pictures or much else but at least we've got a name to go on!

What about the Pretty Poodles? They should be in the thread title too in case anyone comes along looking for them instead of the kitties.

[ID: Cute Kitties and Pretty Poodles] Colourful Plastic Kittens and Poodles, Durham Industries 1983 [May 2009]

is how the title should read.

Unfortunately there's a limited amount of letters a topic title can contain, so I have adjusted it as best I can.   :)

I want to add a photo for the Poodle, I have a bunch more on Flickr for it but I'll only post one here for now. I'll have a photo for the yellow kitty once I get her hair under control. :)
