Serious Question of Great Seriousness
« on: Sunday 02 May 2010, 08:47 am »
O.k so a while ago I bought heaps and heaps of those mattel furryville thingies when they were on sale. Now as you all know, space is a big issue. There is never enough room for all the toys we would like to buy. So my question is - should I debox these?

Now, I like deboxed toys. I like to take them out and look at them and set them up and go 'ooh' at all the little accessories. The thing with these is that they look pretty nice in the packaging. I can't keep the packaging (e.g. flatten it) because it's made of plastic stuff that would snap (if not now then not so far into the future) and it's the way the stuff is place and set up in the packaging, not the packaging itself.

When I eventually make over my dollhouse I was thinking the little accessories and stuff could like nice in there along with the mish mash of other little toys I want to put in there. Obviously I can't do that if they're in the box, but once I trash the packaging there's no going back!

Here's some of them: http://toyfair05.asmzine.com/companies/tf05-mattel-furryville-2/index.html the little prism shaped packs with a single figure I have no problem ripping open with glee, it's the larger boxes I'm thinking about. Looking at this toyfair site though, it seems the idea is that you keep the background part and that won't take up that much room.... *ponders*  ???

So anyway, what would you do?

Damn toy companies - there's no way you can take it out of the pack and have the background like they've done. So annoying.

Think of it this way.  Even if you separate the two, and keep the boxes somewhere, they will still take up the same amount of space in your home (technically, more).  If you want to enjoy them instead of just looking at them in the package (which, sure, can be enjoyable too) you can take them out and set them on display or "play" with em.

I'm a big plastic tub person, so of course if there is no moisture on them, you could neatly put them in plastic tubs when they're not on display.  Small ones, medium ones, whatever.  Then, in my attic, I keep a big computer box of boxes I save.  That way I can always get them if I want to sell or something, and I can still keep them without the space bothering me!

It's early so I hope this made sense.  :)  Good luck finding a solution!  ^^
