Little Yellow Plastic Bear
« on: Wednesday 14 July 2010, 11:05 pm »
I've had this little guy since I was little:

I found out my best friend also has one from when she was little but I was born in the UK and she was born in France! The only difference is mine is yellow and hers is glow in the dark plastic but other than that they're identical.

Neither of them have any marks or dates and they're about 2 and a half inches tall with a hole in the bottom. We just found it strange that we both ended up with the same random teddy toy.

Any idea who they are?

I got mine in the US at a Pic n Save store in California.

I have a collection of these guys. Other animals were made besides the bear. I have a cat, mouse, elephant, a dog/monkey thing. I had a rabbit, but lost the it as a child.

This site also has a picture of the cat and monkey.

Personally I think the cat has a "Hello Kitty" look to it. I've also seen the monkey for sale with those cheap baby dolls.

I'm in Australia - I have the elephant from when I was a baby :) His trunk is coming off though - I think I probably bit it.

I don't think they're real GloFriends though, the site says fake.

They're not part of Hasbro/Playskool's Glo Friends series. It seems like there were quite a few made so will leave this post unidentified in case someone knows their name.

These are the three images from http://www.80stoysale.com, noted as Glo Friend fakies:

I found a picture the monkey that came with a baby doll. I cut it out from a Fingerhut catalog from the 90s. I circled the monkey in red

A close up of the monkey. It has the same paint scheme as the one pictured on http://www.80stoysale.com

Yes, I tried to ID this bears for years. I am in Australia and I purchased the pink one (same as the one in the doll box set above) at a school fete at the age of 7 in '89 for 20 cents. The yellow bear I purchased at a trash 'n' treasure market a few months ago for 50 cents. I had to buy it as I could not believe that I had come across another one! Here's my photo:

Me and my sister had the mouse and cat but ours definitly didn't come with a doll we had some glow friends and these were extra ones my mum got from the local pound store. I think they were originally carded. The mouse was rubbish (wouldn't stand up) I remember it really annoyed me Glo spider was far better xxx I xxx

Well at the very least it looks like we have a maker for these. Cititoy probably reused the molds for these animals in a few different things.
