I used to have a site thing the info on the doll. Here's the text:

"When I was little, I had a doll I called "Lavender" who was a mermaid. Even after she lost an arm, I still had alot of fun with her. At some point in time Lavender went missing and by now has probably been thrown away. Now, years later, I am looking for information on who made Lavender and the other dolls like her but unfortunatly I recieved her during the 80's when quite a few mermaid dolls were produced.

Profile
Name: Lavender (Probably not her original name)
Purchased: By my mother, sometime during the late 80's but before 1990.
Physical Description: Pudgey, toddler-like build. Mermaid. Round face with a round nose and a :D type open mouth. Long blue and purple hair in a high pony tail, shimmery blue (purple?) tail.

Variations Found:
*Green hair, Green Tail
*Blue hair with Purple streaks, Pink Tail
*Blond, Golden tail

Dead Ends:
*Sea Wees by Kenner: Smaller, no noses, body in a different position
*My Pretty Mermaid by Hasbro/Playskool: Smaller, jointed tail fin, magic symbol
*Sweet Sea by TOMY: Body in a different position, curly hair, mouth closed
* Mermaid Princess by TNT: Similar in build and position but not the same. No shimmery tail, thinner, closed mouth."

Also, I am Canadian.

I had one of these in California, and I had never been to Canada. I think I might have got it at a drugstore or a small toy store on a visit with my grandmother, or after a doctor visit. I am not sure if I have it anymore, but I wish I could be of more help. I can't remember much about it, either. Mine was blond, I think, with a blue tail.

I found this little baby mermaid on eBay that looks like it might go with your mermaids. It has the same shimmery tail and it's in the same pose:

The poster says they're made by Galoob.

Hmm, it looks different to me. Different pose, and smaller. I am still on the lookout for the original dolls, but I think they might be difficult to find.

The eBay sale link to the Galoob mermaid is a Magic Diapers Merbaby, a different toy from the mermaids Lon is looking for unfortunately.

Shoot, I thought that maybe your dolls might have come with little mer-babies like so many of the other mermaid toys from the 80's did but I guess not. The only other one I've seen like yours end up being the TNT ones, but I'll continue to keep an eye out.

(Sorry guys, I forgot to keep checking back)

Yeah, I had some of the Magic Diaper Merbabies too. They fit in the palm of your hand whereas the one I've looking for was larger. It's hard to tell exactly since you don't always remember sizes correctly from childhood but I'm pretty sure she was about the same size as the TNT one.

Thanks anyway though, Erica!

I know it is no help in IDing, but there's one for sale in a lot on ebay right now. If anyone here buys it I'd be interested in the Japanese book if they might want to resell just that book to me..

TNT produced the Mermaid Princess dolls as featured in this post:

Looking at the eBay link above the dolls appear to be more or less the same size but don't look like they are from the same series:

Again, I'm not actually helping to ID these dolls, but I did come across an auction of a blue hair/tail version of these dolls.

I guess this doesn't really relate to the dolls in the topic but the first two dolls in this picture are part of the same series.  I had one exactly like them as a kid but she had a pink fin and pink hair.  I always wondered what they were.  I'm pretty sure it was the 80's when I got her for Xmas.
