One of my first Barbie outfits was a strapless dress that I loved. I don't know whether or not I still have it (if so, I might can get a photo over break). But I'm pretty sure it's in pretty bad shape. :-P
So, I got my first Barbie probably Christmas 1988 so this was probably bought soon after. And one of my earliest memories is carrying my little satchel with my Barbie and her clothes (including this dress) to a family reunion and another trip where we stayed at a hotel with complimentary Jolly Ranchers in the room (yes, I remember stuff THAT random from when I was 3).
So, here's what I can tell you:
-Late 1980s (I can't tell you if it was Mattel or not)
-Purchased in the southeastern US
-Mint green strapless dress (around knee length)
-I can't recall if it was velcro or snap closure in the back - I strongly suspect it was velcro
-The dress seemed a bit snug in the chest area on my doll so it might not have been made by Mattel for "Barbie" I'm sure I received it new but I was too young at the time to remember/care about the package!
-The top bodice portion had shimmery silver "dots" in the fabric rather like the tail on my original Tyco Ariel doll (I think it's been rubbed almost see-through by now!)
-There was a small pink bow at the top of the front of the dress
-The fabric in the skirt was sort of shiny with a smooth texture (I think it's called rayon or something? Basically fake silk/satin).
-The shoes were peach and in a mold I've never seen since. There was a bow molded into the top so they always made me think they were inspired by the shoes of French Royalty (
example)
-There was a matching hairbow that attached to the hair via a small piece of velcro (I'm fairly sure I've lost this)
-I'm almost 100% sure that there was a clutch purse included (ex. a metallic gold one?)
Who can help me out?
