One of my first Barbie outfits was a strapless dress that I loved. I don't know whether or not I still have it (if so, I might can get a photo over break). But I'm pretty sure it's in pretty bad shape. :-P

So, I got my first Barbie probably Christmas 1988 so this was probably bought soon after. And one of my earliest memories is carrying my little satchel with my Barbie and her clothes (including this dress) to a family reunion and another trip where we stayed at a hotel with complimentary Jolly Ranchers in the room (yes, I remember stuff THAT random from when I was 3).

So, here's what I can tell you:
-Late 1980s (I can't tell you if it was Mattel or not)
-Purchased in the southeastern US
-Mint green strapless dress (around knee length)
-I can't recall if it was velcro or snap closure in the back - I strongly suspect it was velcro
-The dress seemed a bit snug in the chest area on my doll so it might not have been made by Mattel for "Barbie" I'm sure I received it new but I was too young at the time to remember/care about the package!
-The top bodice portion had shimmery silver "dots" in the fabric rather like the tail on my original Tyco Ariel doll (I think it's been rubbed almost see-through by now!)
-There was a small pink bow at the top of the front of the dress
-The fabric in the skirt was sort of shiny with a smooth texture  (I think it's called rayon or something? Basically fake silk/satin).
-The shoes were peach and in a mold I've never seen since. There was a bow molded into the top so they always made me think they were inspired by the shoes of French Royalty (example)
-There was a matching hairbow that attached to the hair via a small piece of velcro (I'm fairly sure I've lost this)
-I'm almost 100% sure that there was a clutch purse included (ex. a metallic gold one?)

Who can help me out? :D

I'm sure this is retarded looking and totally inaccurate, but I was having a hard time picturing it all together so I doodled it.  XD

Hope it helps?

That's great! You DON'T want to see what I had drawn so far... (and I have a tablet computer with a pen!)

The only thing off is the bow. It was in the green fabric like the dress. I think it was shaped more like this bow? And like maybe the top layer had the fabric like the bodice.

And the top of the shoes had a tongue/ruffle thing going on with the mold. :-P

Thanks again!<3 <3 <3

XD Thanks!  Oh you should show the doodles! Haha!

Hm, I'm having a hard time understanding what bow you're talking about in the link?

No problem. :D

I described it fairly well apparently! I drew this dress before I saw your version! I just now added the bow, shoes, and purse. :)

Hmm, were the shoes anything like the ones on the Creata lace dolls? They have rosettes, not bows, but they were the first thing I thought of when you said they looked like French royalty.

That's probably close. I've been trying to talk my sister into looking while she's home but she's being lame. >:(

I'm guessing this was never a Mattel Barbie shoe mold? (I don't think that I've ever seen them in a lose pieces lot).

I don't think so. I had just one of these shoes when I was little (it must have come in a bag from a yard sale because I never had any Creata dolls and I don't remember ever having its pair) and I remember thinking that it was definitely not Barbie (thin, cheap plastic) and also that I had never seen others like it.

I don't know much about Creata other than the fairy dolls and the lace dolls, so does anyone know if they ever released any generic Barbie-sized fashion sets?

You know, I always liked those shoes. The normal Barbie ones at the time were that super hard plastic in just a boring generic style. I used to also like the really flimsy open toed heel sandals by the companies like Totsy, BBI Toys, etc.

Did the shoes look like these?

I borrowed this picture from the Pranceatron website.

I think I saved it when I saw those shoes for sale. They must have been sold since I save the picture.
