Non-Disney Animated Films
« on: Thursday 20 May 2010, 07:57 pm »
Here you may share your favorite Non-Disney animated films from the 1980s and 1990s!
List them, discuss them, talk about the merchandise, whatever!

One of my favorite directors/animators is Don Bluth.  He did the following movies:

   The Small One (1978)
   Banjo the Woodpile Cat (1979)
   The Secret of NIMH
   An American Tail
   The Land Before Time
   All Dogs Go to Heaven
   Rock-A-Doodle
   Thumbelina
   A Troll in Central Park
   The Pebble and the Penguin
   Anastasia
   Titan A.E.

Thumbelina is my second favorite animated movie ever.   ;D

How about the Thief and the Cobbler? The preview was on my Anastasia VHS but I don't think that I ever got to see it! :o

That's one I haven't seen either!  It's by Richard Williams apparently.  I always remembered seeing the cover in a movie rental store but never renting it.  XD  I was one of those kids who wanted to watch a few movies 100 times.

I didn't watch it until a couple of years ago.  I really enjoyed it and the music is lovely.

This is the only merchandise I know of for the movie:

I love Thief and the Cobbler. Also Quest for Camelot, Swan Princess, Ferngully, Cat's Don't Dance.
Once Upon A Forest and Balto were cute but not something I will get in DVD

Yeah I remember enjoying Ferngully.  I never saw Cats Don't Dance or Once Upon A Forest!  Balto came on all the time and I liked it.  :3

@EdenEye
Toy Story totally confirmed my suspicions, lol.  XDD

I can't believe how many sequels were made. Balto has 3 movies. Anastasia had Bartok the Magnificient. Swan princess 3 total. American Tail made 2 more and a short lived tv show. Ferngully the sequel etc...

Sequels always irritated me. I hate the voice actors that *almost* sound like the original...

ooh ooh! One of my favorite non-Disney movies is "Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid" anime movie from the 70's. The animation is so beautiful and the story is a bit closer to the original. The whole movie is on youtube. I personally can't stand watching movies on the computer though. Here is a good fan made music video that kind of sums up the movie. The person did a really good job putting it together. It almost makes me cry! D:
