Pillow People :: Packaging

"You play with me... We watch TV... and then at night you hug me tight and all is right!"

Pillow People were produced by Spring Industries and PCE Marketing in 1986-88. They were a fairly large series of large pillow shaped fabric characters with fabric arms and satin legs, and bold printed features. They were sold in the home furnishing department rather than toy isle.  In 1996 Kidsview re-issues six characters, in 2002 Best Brands re-issued at least three characters, and in 2009 InVision bought the rights but nothing seems to have come of beyond a now defunct website.

Packaging and Leaflets

They were sold in cellophane wrappers with a cardboard top which later changed as more character were added. Inside they had a large card tag folded in half with a story inside.

Early Packaging Later Packaging

There were six characters produced at first, printed on the back of the top packaging.

There was then an advert added for more characters c1986 (all but one Pillow Pets were released with different names than listed). This made seventeen characters.

This shows original character Big Footsteps being added to the Noises In The Night themed characters.

This packaging images shows eighteen characters (the addition of "Stardust"), c.1987.

Joe College's tag had an advert for the Miniature Pillow People on the back, dated 1987.

This is what the later issue character bum logo's look like.

This is the story which came with the original six characters. The front of the leaflet had an illustration of the character it came with.
